Parking
Reception and Year 1 parents who use the 'Kiss and Drop', on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon, could we kindly ask you to not enter the car park until 3.15pm. We have to keep the area clear for as long as possible in case of emergencies. Thank you for your cooperation.
FROM THE HEADS DESK
What a week!! It has been arguably one of our most successful weeks in school this year. Boys have been solving problems, tackling challenges, creating and running complex event and procedures, making electricity, dramatising poetry…….. the list is endless!! In our quest to produce more resilient and independent free thinkers, we have really triumphed.
So, in a week where you voted with your feet to have the Heads Words and not a blog, I will celebrate it by writing very little!!! Please just click on this link here to discover lots of photos that have been taken of our endeavours. The boys have surprised us with some of their lateral thinking, and we have purposely taken them out of their learning comfort zone!!
My final duty this half term is to inform you of the positive progress that Susan Payne has made. Yesterday, Susan walked, albeit with a zimmerframe, the length of her hospital ward. This is the first time she has been able to take more than 3 or 4 steps. The staff room was overjoyed on hearing this news as I am sure you all will be. Although still extremely ill, she remains an inspiration to us all.
I am going (with approx 4 million other Brits it would appear!) to Cornwall this week to see if I can still stand up on a surfboard. I wish you all a peaceful and enjoyable half term break with your families.
Keeping up to date
PTA NEWS
Summer Fete on Saturday 25 June
This year the theme of our fete is 'The Great Outdoors', a theme inspired by the allotment and bushcraft projects the PTA have recently supported.
If you, or anyone you know, would like to take a stall at this year’s event please contact me at emmarobertson@hotmail.co.uk. We are also looking for a number of raffle prizes. If you are able to contribute something please contact me at the same address.
Please click here for the ticket order form.
Payment can be made by cash or cheque with the accompanying order form to the school office. If you pay online then please remember to send in your prize draw entry to the school office as it also assists us with how many tickets you require. Cheques should be made payable to Claires Court and Ridgeway Society.
FROM THE SPORTS' MASTER......
As mentioned last week there is a hive of activity throughout the school and not just on the cricket pitch. Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful 24 hours of Outward Bound last Friday and really appreciated the chance to participate in a rich programme of outdoor education whilst creating lots of treasured memories with their friends. The activities involved sailing, raft building, kayaking and camping overnight in the school grounds. Great fun was had by all and there were some very tired faces leaving school on Saturday morning, and that was just the staff!!
This week has been Pupil Problem Solving Week and all age groups have been attempting different challenges in their PE lessons from inventing their own games and challenging their peers, to tug of war and Mr Pennington’s two man t-shirt race.
Last Saturday saw our U11A team travel to St Benedict’s T10 Cricket Tournament. The pupils played several matches throughout the day winning an impressive three out of four against High Wycombe CC and two seperate St Benedict teams. Special mention must go to Tom Molhoek scoring 27 from just 22 deliveries. On Tuesday we took 6 U9 teams to play against Gayhurst with Haider-Ali Baig and Prabhan Kang impressing with the bat and Toby Giles with some excellent bowling.
Please can I remind all pupils that they must wear their blazer and cap when they represent the school at a cricket fixture.

FROM THE CHESS 'GRAND MASTER'
e4 e5...
This week in chess we have been focusing on how to notate our games. Notation is an important skill as it not only allows us to replay move for move our greatest victories, but it also, perhaps far more importantly, gives us the opportunity to review our defeats and thus learn from our mistakes. Painful though this latter experience can be, it is an essential step in becoming a better chess player and indeed, a stronger and wiser individual.
We will be encouraging the boys to notate all of their games for the remainder of the school year and I hope to laminate some perfectly recorded games and display them on the Chess notice board. Speaking of said notice board, the pictures (and medals) from EPSCA are now on display, and the trophies earned in Bristol have joined the already massed ranks of awards on the landing. May there be many more to come.
