Reflections of the new Principal...
I do want to thank everyone within the community for making this a great transition. New Haven has been a welcoming environment, and I love coming to work everyday. The staff is fantastic, and the students are amazing. Its hard to believe we have been in school for 3 months already, and it has been a VERY busy 3 months. New Haven is a happening place! I have been blown away with all that we offer and have going on, but most of all the parent involvement has filled my heart. It is so awesome to walk through the lunch room and see parents eating with their kids, parents volunteering in classrooms, sitting in halls reading with students, putting celebrations together, and the list goes on and on! I love attending all of the events and getting to know all of the students. It's one of the highlights of my job.
Of course with a new Principal comes "new ways of doing things". I'd like to say that all the changes have been wonderful and accepted by everyone, but that only happens in a perfect world (and I haven't made it there yet!). However, I will say that the changes that have been made have always been student based, and that is how we will continue to look at things. New Haven has always had the reputation within the district as being a family, and even with a new principal and MANY new teachers, that continues to remain the same. We are all making and accepting change together. This year, for me, is about establishing relationships and assessing need. We've made decisions together about needed immediate changes, but these have been necessary for a more effective New Haven.
I have many ideas that I'm excited to implement, and the staff and parents have added to them with their perspectives and creativity. I love the fact that already it is an open discussion about "our vision of New Haven", my hope is that will continue and become even more powerful. I am asking you to bare with me as we implement new procedures and expectations, many in which will improve communication and ultimately benefit student learning.
