7/8 Academy
Weekly News - October 15, 2021
Dear 7/8 Academy Families,
We had a very busy week this week! Our homecoming pep assembly, the first since the beginning of the pandemic, was a huge success. It was so exciting to see students having fun and showing their school spirit. Thank you to all of the parents who came to the in-person conferences on Wednesday this week. If you did not attend those, please consider attending the virtual conferences on Tuesday. Students also completed the Math and Reading NWEA tests this week. If your student was absent or did not complete one or both of their tests, they will receive instructions next week for makeups.
Have a great weekend!

2021 Spring MSTEP Scores
The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP, is an assessment designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. These standards broadly outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be prepared to enter the workplace, career education training, and college. The MSTEP is administered to students each spring in grades 3-8, and grade 11.
For students who took the Spring 2021 M-STEP, the individual data reports have arrived! All of the parent reports will be available to view on Skyward soon. If you would like to see the results sooner, you may pick up a copy of the report in the 7/8 Academy Office at any time.
Additionally, a helpful companion to this report is the M-STEP Parent Guide, which provides grade level descriptions of the assessed standards and what the student will be expected to learn in the next school year for each tested grade. To access the Parent Report Guides, go to this link on the Michigan Department of Education website.

New Quarantine Guidelines
Beginning Monday, September 20, 2021, parents/guardians whose child has been quarantined by the health department may choose one of three options for their student’s return to school. Students who are vaccinated do not have to quarantine or test.
Option 1 - 10-day quarantine and monitor symptoms for 14 days
Option 2 - Return to school after 7-day quarantine with a negative antigen or PCR test taken (at home) on day 6-7 after exposure (back in school on day 7) and monitor symptoms for 14 days
Option 3 - Stay in class with daily COVID-19 antigen test with negative result for 7 days (at home) and monitor symptoms for 14 days
***If you are choosing option 2 or option 3, you will need to obtain a form from the school office for your student to return.
At-home testing requirements - (1) retain all test results for a period of at least 30 days; (2) a copy of the test documentation must be provided to a representative of the CCPHD upon request. Parents choosing Options 2 or 3 are responsible to secure required tests for their child. The school district is working to obtain COVID tests from the state which, if available, will be provided at no cost to the families of quarantined Lakeview students.
Student Work During an Extended Absence
All teachers will be communicating with families about how students can access their work during an extended absence such as a quarantine, illness, or suspension. Most teachers will be utilizing Schoology to house the classroom assignments.
We realize that 7th grade students do not have the same experience with Schoology as 8th grade students, so if they haven’t done so already, 7th grade teachers will be working with students to familiarize them with Schoology.
If you have an updated email address in Skyward, you would have received an email with your login information to your student’s Schoology account. Please watch the video below for step by step instructions.
