Raider Update
A Weekly eNewsletter from Hastings Public Schools
Message from the Superintendent
Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Raiders!
Thank you to all of our women and men who have served to protect all that we enjoy in this country. And, I want to especially acknowledge those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
It's hard to believe we are at the last four days of the school year. I know it has been a year like no other, but here we are. You should have received communications from your buildings regarding specific events taking place this week for your child.
Strategic Planning continues, and draft documents continue to be posted to our website. The next steps are for the school board to spend the evenings of June 9th and 16th developing the next versions of the mission, vision, and core values and a three-year work plan and 10-year direction.
Finally, two items I have included weekly. First, our masking and social distancing protocols are required to stay in place until the last day of school. These will be lifted for summer school except for busing, early childhood, and child care services. Second, for those who have students beginning kindergarten, seventh, and eleventh grade, please sign up for and get your immunizations completed.
Have a fantastic final week, and congratulations to all of our families with graduates!
Bob McDowell, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Listening to Our Students and Families
Our students, staff, and families have been participating in focus groups and surveys as part of the district’s Strategic Planning process. This input is critical in developing plans to ensure we are providing the kinds of experiences our students need and want on their educational journey with Hastings Public Schools.
One of the things we are hearing is that students and families do not always feel welcome in our schools. These experiences can be due to microaggressions, which are subtle statements or actions that communicate negative perceptions about a person based on the “group” they are in.
If you’re interested in learning more about microaggressions, the district’s Equity Action Planning Team offers these two resources: a 2-minute video and these tools for understanding and responding to microaggressions. Read more about the YMCA training session where these tools were introduced here.
Our Email Addresses Have Changed
- District #200 is transitioning to a single email system in Google on May 10th. Previously, we used both Outlook and Google Gmail.
- Staff emails will now be username@isd200.org instead of username@hastings.k12.mn.us and username@hastingsapps.org
- Students in Grades 5-12 currently have a district Gmail account in the @hastingsapps.org domain and those student emails are also switching over to the @isd200.org domain.
- ALL email messages sent to the old email addresses (@hastings.k12.mn.us and @hastingsapps.org) WILL still route to the @isd200.org inbox of the recipient even after the transition on May 10th, so if you send a message to the old email address, the recipient will still receive the message.
- The district website URL is not changing at this time and is still www.hastings.k12.mn.us
