Coaching Focus: Essential #4
Essential #4
Coaches are modeling this strategy from Oct. 1st - Nov. 12th in classrooms. Playing with sounds in words is used to heighten children's awareness that language is made up of parts. You model this by breaking down sentences, words, syllables and individual phonemes (sounds).
Planner
Providing students with an opportunity to play with sounds in words develops early reading and writing skills. This planner helps teachers think of the different categories of games they should use with their preschoolers.
Video
This video demonstrates how to change the beginning sounds to specific words in a song. This is known as alliteration, the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words. Modeling to children how to change the beginning sounds to another sound is a fun way to play with sounds in words.
