WLWV School Board Briefs
June 12, 2019
The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board held a public meeting on Monday, June 10. The following are select highlights from that meeting.
School Board Adopts 2019-20 Budget
All school boards are required to adopt budgets by June 30, and Superintendent Dr. Kathy Ludwig informed the Board that future adjustments to the budget will likely be required as state funding is further finalized.
Further information, including a message from Dr. Ludwig regarding the 2019-20 budget, will be sent to families via ListServ in the coming days.
Local Option Levy Proposed Ballot Language Approved for November, 2019 Election
The Local Option Levy currently provides funding for approximately 80 teachers in the District. The renewal of $1.50 tax per $1,000 of assessed value for general operations for five years beginning in 2020-21 will allow the District to maintain those teachers currently funded by the Local Option Tax. The Local Option Tax Levy was last passed by West Linn-Wilsonville voters in 2014 and is set to expire following the 2019-20 fiscal year.
Long Range Plan Part 2, Capital Improvement Program Approved, Board Turns Attention to Possible 2019 Capital Bond
Part 2 outlines the Capital Improvement Program, identifying facility needs, timing and sequence, and specific capital improvement projects needed over the next 10 years across the district.
Following approval of the Long Range Plan Part 2, the Board engaged in the first reading of 2019 Capital Bond Proposed Ballot Language. A second and final reading will occur in August after the District has learned whether a matching grant will be received from the State.
Three Rivers Charter School Contract Renewed
Classified Staff Contract Ratified, Approved by School Board
The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board approved a two-year WLWV Oregon School Employees Association Classified Staff Contract during the June 10 meeting.
Of note, the two-year contract includes a Cost of Living Amount (COLA) increase of 2.5 percent in each of the next two years, an increase in the premium insurance cap, and a salary step process adjustment that better reflects years of service and meets minimum wage standards. The Board thanked WLWV OSEA President Mary Hanks on behalf of all West Linn-Wilsonville classified staff during the June 10 presentation.
Three Community Members Appointed to Long Range Planning Committee Vacancies
The Long Range Planning Committee is a seven-member citizen committee responsible for guiding the development of the Long Range Plan, that provides a rational framework for evaluating and addressing future school facility needs as the West Linn and Wilsonville areas grow.
