Eaton Parent Newsletter

April 22nd, 2022

Dear Eaton Families,

We are happy to be back in school together! We are looking forward to a busy quarter. Our Olympians jumped right in this week and are working hard for a strong finish to a great school year.

Next week is a busy week. We are excited that some of our Olympians will be participating in the Special Olympics. Our Kindergarten classes are going on a field trip to the aquarium. 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are taking the NC Check In Reading assessment.

We are all looking forward to Eaton's Fun Field Day on May 20th. Please save the date. We will need volunteers to help run the stations. More information will be coming soon.

End-of-Grade (EOG) Assessments @ Eaton

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will participate in End-of-Grade (EOG) assessments. These are state-assessments based on grade level standards. 3rd and 4th graders will take the EOG assessments in Reading and Math. 5th graders will take the EOG assessments in Reading, Math and Science.

Please contact Mrs. Allen if you are interested in being a Proctor at Eaton for the EOGs. Proctors must be Level 2 volunteers, and are not allowed to proctor in a testing session with someone who is related to them.

EOG Assessment Dates:

May 26th, Science EOG (5th Grade)

May 27th, Reading EOG (3rd, 4th & 5th Grades)

June 1st, Math EOG (3rd Grade)

June 2nd, Math EOG (4th & 5th Grades)

In addition to EOG assessments, some 3rd graders will be invited to take the Read to Achieve (RTA) assessment on June 3rd. This assessment is for 3rd grade students who are not proficient in reading. It is an additional opportunity for 3rd grade students to show proficiency in reading. You will receive a phone call after the Reading EOG if your 3rd grader is invited to take this assessment.

Literacy at Home (Digital Children’s Reading Initiative):

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Office of Early Learning is pleased to announce the newest resource to support young readers in North Carolina, “Literacy at Home.” As part of current legislation, Senate Bill 387 directs NC DPI to develop and share a digital children’s reading initiative designed to support the continued growth of North Carolina’s youngest readers. The site is home to easily accessible resources in the foundational areas of reading supported by the science of reading. Developed for each grade level, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, resources are available to support phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and oral language.
