Hollywood Robotics FRC Team 7211 went to Kettering University on Saturday February 3rd to compete in a mid-build season scrimmage against 7 other teams, most of which were college teams who all built a competition ready robot in 3 days (RI3D) at the beginning of the season. The other teams were rookie teams who built the FIRST® Kitbot - a basic robot that can compete with minimal parts and programming. Team Hollywood built a kitbot in the first weekend of the season and competed with that in the scrimmage.
Team Hollywood placed 2nd overall, just 0.5 points behind the 1st place team which is an RI3D team composed of adult seasoned professionals and mentors in the engineering and programming fields. Team Hollywood is finalizing their competition robot and will be releasing a reveal video in the next couple weeks to showcase their hard work. The team has partnered with Earth2Earth/FreshHotShirts.com and opened an online team apparel store that will remain open until February 18th. If you would like to show your support for the team, please head to our online store and grab some great gear! All orders will be delivered to the school and we will contact you when it has been received. ~Written by Coach Hawley
Cream of the Crop Musicians
Congratulations to junior trombone player Will Raleigh on his acceptance to, and performance with the 2024 Michigan All-State Orchestra! Will was among 2,800 student musicians that auditioned for all state ensembles, and one of 350 that were accepted. Will was selected as the first chair trombonist in the orchestra, which means he is currently ranked as the #1 high school trombonist in the State of Michigan.
In addition, sophomore percussionist Bradlee Coggins was selected honorable mention to the All-State Band. His honorable mention selection places him among the top high school musicians in the state. ~Written by Mr. Baldwin
