MCGHEE'S MESSAGES
SEPTEMBER 18-22
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Langauge Arts/Reading-What amazing writers are in room 220! They are all writing songs, chapter books, poems and awesome stories. I am so proud of them! They did a beginning of the year writing sample for me this week. We also discovered a "theme" in the books we have been reading...like your self for who you are. We read about Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu. The kids also read informational books about Emus and wrote facts they found interesting. We also focused on what makes a complete and correct sentence.
Social Studies-We celebrated Freedom Week and Constitution Day this week. We had a visit from one of my daughter's friends that is in the Marines. He shared what freedom means to him. We learned about the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and how these documents impact our lives even today.
Science-We are learning all about matter. Our focus was on the properties of matter. So we recorded information about some frozen objects and some not frozen objects to note the difference. We sorted our shoes by different properties. We also pretended to be stranded on a desert island with only the things in a lunch bag. They had to make a hat from those materials that would protect them from the sun, absorb sweat and stay on their head. They were very creative!
