Work from Home Etiquette
We are all embarking on a wild ride and many are feeling overwhelmed. Here are some work-from-home tips.
Set aside a place and time for work
Establishing a routine is important for us and our students. We have all set aside a time for work by establishing office hours. If you are able set aside a designated space, even a corner of the dining room table, as your workspace.
Correspond during regular work hours
Please try to limit correspondence to your regular work hours and days, realizing most will reply during their office hours, please be patient in waiting for a response.
If you have a great idea and are afraid you will forget, or you do your best work at 3 am then please write that email but schedule when to send it to arrive during the regular workday.
How to schedule Send
Compose a new email
Click the triangle next to the blue “Send” button.
Select one of the suggested times, or click “Pick date & time” to customize when exactly you want the message to go out.
Click “Schedule send”
Primary Means of Communication
The primary means of communication should be email and scheduled web meetings. Please refrain from text and phone calls. Texting someone down the hall to ask if they have some crayons you can borrow is much different than texting someone at home. Our fellow teachers are working from home managing their own children these extra texts and phone calls can be very distracting. Please be courteous.
To Use Video or Not
When entering an online Web Meeting (Google Meet or Zoom) it is not required to have the video on. We are more connected and engaged when the video is on but sometimes circumstances cause us to want to avoid video. Please respect a participant’s choice in using video or not.
