We hope you had a restful Presidents' Day weekend! We have some pretty big events coming up to finish the month of February, including the distric's Science and Engineering Fair and the Black History Celebration. We hope to see you there! Seniors, please pay close attention to a new section of the Smore, "Senior Scoop," which will feature information geared especially to the Class of 2016.

* MOVERS AND SHAKERS *
Cheer Champs!
The LHS Cheerleaders grabbed FIRST PLACE in the Medium Division at the Cheer Limited Open Championships on Saturday, February 6th at Sun Bank Arena. Way to go, girls!
Track Athletes Qualify for States
The LHS Track team is proud to share that several individuals qualified for the State Group Indoor Track & Field Championship, which will be held on February 20th:
Mijah Collier (55-Meter Hurdles)
Cynthia Currie (55-Meter Dash)
Mijah Collier, Nelle Evans, Sataya Gordon, Afreen Satarwalla (Girls 4x400 Meter Relay)

School Spirit Comes in all Sizes
The Slackwood Cheerleaders did an amazing half-time performance with the LHS Varsity Cheerleaders during the Girls' Basketball game on February 12th against Robbinsville. We were so honored to have them showcasing their spirit with our cheerleaders!

Operation Smile Leads with Love
On Saturday, February 13th, the LHS Operation Smile Club hosted a full-day leadership conference entitled, “U Lead with Love.” The theme of the summit was, “Love is making someone else’s problem your problem" and was designed to inspire students to make a difference in the community. Activities throughout the day included speakers, Valentine-themed activities, reaching out to others through “Smile Bags,” collecting donations on behalf of LHS, and student presentations led by Olivia Waaben, club President, as well as other club members.
Through this project, Lawrence High School collected 2000 donations and made 300 Smile Bags through working with the community!

Swimmers Finishing Strong
The LHS Swim Boys' and Girls' Swim teams had a great season, both finishing as Patriot Division Champs! The girls also finished 7th in the county tournament, and the boys placed 6th and were runners up at the state sectional meet.
Five individuals are still on the move, having qualified for the individual state tournament at the end of the month. Best of luck to Angelina Franceschini, Kyle Jorgensen, James Keane, Yauheni Patskevich, and Anthony Weiss!
Artists on Display
Artworks of Trenton will be hosting the art of LHS teacher Sean Carney in his exhibition, “It’s All Wood,” which will run March 5th – April 2nd. "It’s All Wood" consists of paintings of Philadelphia, New York, Boston, New Brunswick, Toronto, Dublin, Princeton and Trenton. For more information, please visit http://artworkstrenton.org
Mercer County Community College will be hosting the work of both Cheryl Eng and Sean Carney in the 2016 Mercer County Artists Exhibition, which runs February 22nd – March 24th (closed the week of March 14th). More information can be found HERE.

Black History Celebration
In recognition of Black History Month, LHS will host a celebration entitled, “Black History: A Celebration of Culture, Class, Courage and Change” on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Funded by a grant from the LTEF and LTEA, the event will feature an array of moving performances and tributes by LHS students, faculty, and special guests, as well as refreshments and festive music from the LHS Jazz Ensemble. The official program features an opening African drum and dance performance by The Garvey School of Trenton, performances by the LHS Madrigal and Gospel Choirs, featured guests, The Renaissance Band and a list of other exciting event surprises. This celebration is a FREE event and is open to all who wish to attend!

Shark Tank
Have an idea for a product or business? LHS's Shark Tank is coming in April! Compete against other students and teachers for cash and prizes. Applications are due by March 1st.

"So You Think You Can Sing?"
The class of 2018 will be hosting a Karaoke Night called, “So You Think You Can Sing” on Thursday, March 3rd. The event will feature about 20 acts, including teacher groups! Groups can be made up of 1, 2, or 3 people.

Hairspray, the Musical
This year's spring musical is HAIRSPRAY! The show will run March 10-12 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be available online staring February 17th ($8 for students and senior citizens, $10 for adults). All tickets at the door will be $10.

Hairspray follows the story of Tracey Turnblad, a heavy-set girl trying to make it as a dancer on the Corny Collins show. It features such numbers as "Good Morning Baltimore," "Welcome to the 60s," and "You Cant Stop the Beat."

Models Wanted
Lord & Taylor at Quakerbridge Mall will be hosting a prom fashion show on Saturday, March 5th from 12:00-4:00 p.m. and is looking for male and female LHS students to walk the runway to model their latest prom fashions! Representatives from Lord & Taylor will make all selections. Only Lawrence High School students will be given the chance to strut their stuff for this exclusive opportunity. They will select 30-40 LHS students from two casting calls:
- Tuesday, February 16th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
- Saturday, February 20th from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
