Hemlock to Host Boys Soccer District
Hemlock will be the site this year for the District 44 boys soccer games. The first round will take place on Wednesday, October 9th and consists of four games: Ithaca @ Bullock Creek (6pm), Hemlock vs. Shepherd (7pm), Swan Valley @ Freeland (6pm) and Chesaning @ Alma (4:30pm). The second round will be on Wednesday, October 16th with both games at Hemlock, 5pm & 7pm. The final will be on Saturday, October 19th, 12pm.
The Hemlock team took seed #1 with the new Michigan Power Rating (MPR) system.
MPR is calculated using wins, losses and ties for games played between teams entered into the MHSAA tournament. Scores of games, margin of victory and location of games are not included in the MPR formula. The final MPR number is 25% of the team's winning percentage, plus 50% of its opponent's winning percentage, plus 25% of its opponent's opponent's winning percentage.

King & Queen Announcement Assembly - Thursday (10/10)
Thursday, October 10th
For the high school assembly, we will have the middle school here for the announcement of the King and Queen. Court members, band, and pom pon members will be dismissed at 1:50pm. The band will lead the students to the gym (approx. 2:10pm). Students/teachers should wait until the band passes their door and then follow behind.

6. Favorite teacher/staff member & why? Mr. Yell is my favorite staff member because I've known him for a long time and he's a funny guy. He has been a good influence on my soccer career as well as my personal life.

13. Is there a coach that really made an impact on your life? Why? I wouldn't really consider him a coach but my brother has been the person I've looked up to forever & since I was 4 he's always helped me improve my game.
14. What will you miss the most about Hemlock High School? I will miss playing soccer & going to football & basketball games and being in the student section. I will also miss the good community of people here such as my friends and teachers.

10/2/19 - F Volleyball vs. Bullock Creek - L (10-25, 13-25) Highlights: Sydney passed very well and hit great from the back row. Julia hit and served well. Maddy did a good job at adjusting to a new position.
10/2/19 - JV Volleyball vs. Bullock Creek - L (10-25, 26-24 & 8-15) Ava Khalifa leading the team with 7 aces, Regan Finkbneiner had 5 aces
10/2/19 - V Volleyball vs. Bullock Creek - W (20-25, 25-21, 25-27, 25-9, 15-6) Sydney Peake has 11 kills, 4 blocks, and 3 aces. Brittney Young had 12 Kills. Courtney Boehler had 10 Kills. Kendra Salo had 57 assists, 3 aces. Kylee Ryder had 4 blocks, 3 Kills. Cassidy Peake had 11 digs, 5 aces. Claire Watson had 5 digs 2 aces.
Congratulations to the tennis team for starting off our conference finals with a good start. Our record places us 4th out of 7 teams to start off with. We have 5 out of 8 flights that seeded for our match tomorrow. Garrett Reimer and Alexis Guerrero both placed 4th in conference. Max Hauffe finished 3rd. Ben Lockwood and Carl Spannagel took a 2nd seed and Owen Nurnberg and Joe Renas ended up with the #1 seed.
10/3/19 - V Soccer vs. Clare - W (8-0) Six different seniors scoring a goal. Gabe Tallon, Caden Giacoletti, Nick LaFrance, Mitch Hingston, Cole Urbaniak, and Matt Loucks all scored 1 goal each. Ethan Vietti scored two goals and had 1 assist. Also having 1 assist was Gabe Tallon, Matt Loucks, and Nick LaFrance. Seth Byrne had two assists against the Pioneers and Andrew Knoll was credited with his 9th shutout this season.
10/3/19 - JV Soccer vs. BC Central - W (4-1) Goals by Sander Reidsma , Colton Marino, Andrew Prebay (2)
10/7/19 - F Volleyball @ Gladwin Quad - L vs. Gladwin (10-25, 13-25), L vs. Midland Christian (13-25) and L vs. John Glenn (17-25, 14-25) The girls played well for not having any subs and at one point only having five girls. Julia served and passed great. Maria and Claudia both passed good as well.
10/7/19 - V Soccer @ Bullock Creek - L (2-6) Gabe Tallon and Dakota Ross scored the two Huskie goals. Ethan Vietti had 1 assist. Andrew knoll had 4 saves in goal and Clay Urbaniak had 1 save.
10/4/19 - V Tennis @ TVC - 4th place. Max Hauffe, Garret Reimer, Alexis Guerrero, Gabe Bannerman, and Zach Krueger all received honorable mentions for making it to the semi finals. Max beat Bullock Creek 6-0 / 6-0 but lost to Garber 6-4 / 6-4. Garret beat Bullock Creek 6-1 / 6-2 but lost to Garber 2-6 / 2-6. Alexis beat Alma 6-3 / 6-2 but lost to Frankenmuth 0-6 / 0-6. Gabe and Zach beat Alma 6-3 / 6-1 but lost to Nouvel 1-6 / 2-6. The highlight of the day belongs to Joe Renas and Owen Nurnberg who were seeded number 1 and proved that they deserved it by medaling for 1st place beating Bullock Creek 6-0 / 6-2 and then beating Frankenmuth 6-1 / 6-1. Great Job 4 doubles.
10/8/19 - V Cross Country @ Valley Lutheran - 3rd. All-conferenceWest honors went to Chloe Watson with an honorable mention. Greison McLeod and Evan Robishaw finished on the second team. Hailey Scherzer ran a personal best time and Collin Chevalier ran a season myin a season the best time today.
10/8/19 - V Tennis @ John Glenn - W (6-2) Outstanding performances were made by Max Hauffe who won 6-0 / 6-1. Cory Dobrowolsky who won 3-6 / 6-4 / 6-1. Alexis Guerrero who won 6-1 / 6-2. Becca Willour and Hannah Killingbeck who won 6-0 / 6-4. Owen Nurnberg and Joe Renas who won 6-3 / 6-1. And the most exciting finish of the year goes to Ben Lockwood and Carl Spannagel who lost the first set 5-7 but then won the second set 6-1 and the 3rd set ended 7-6 with a tiebreak score of 8-6. Ben put away the match point with a brilliant forehand shot that just caught the line. Great job last night team and good luck this Friday at Regional.
