Brightwood Tiger Weekly News

2001 Brightwood School Rd Greensboro, NC 27405

Week of November 7 - November 11

Good Evening Brightwood Tiger. This is Principal Stokes. Welcome to another great Game Changing Week! Please remember we welcome our Tigers into the building beginning at 7:05 am and the tardy bell rings at 7:25 am.

So far this school year we have had over 50 students coming to school tardy daily, they are missing valuable instructional time that we cannot get back. The students are also missing out on their morning learning baskets and breakfast. Our 5th grade students will take their Science Interim Assessment; they will need their devices.

Students do not have school Tuesday November 8. Please remember to take the time to exercise your right to vote on Tuesday if you did not Early Vote. Friday, we celebrate Veterans Day so students will not have school on Friday. All student report cards will come home on Wednesday November 9, 2022.

This week we celebrate Children's Book Week. This is not only a celebration of books, but of connection. It is a vehicle to unite kids and adults with books, authors, and illustrators in order to foster a love of reading in all. November is Family Engagement Month! Governor Cooper's proclamation reminds us that families are children's first, longest lasting, and most important teachers, advocates, and nurturers.

Parents many students were issued their devices please help us with reminding the students that their devices are to be used for academic purposes only. We are finding that many students are taking pictures, recoding videos and playing games on their devices. Please take the time to check your child’s device to ensure that they are properly using their device. We are not able to replace chargers at this time so if your child did not return a charger last year using his/her or have lost their charger this school year, we will not be able to replace it at this time. It will need to be replaced by the parent or guardian.

One cards all students in grades Kindergarten through fifth that were issued a One Card must bring and wear their One Card to school daily. If the student does not have their issued One Card it will need to be replaced. A new One Card cost five dollars each time it is lost.

Parents remember our safety protocols include that parents are not allowed to enter the building during our morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. When only students enter the building during these times, which allows us to be more equipped to recognize any potential suspicious activity. We welcome you to contact the school and/or your child’s teacher to schedule 15-minute classroom visits and meetings.

Superintendent Dr. Whitney Oakley is proud to launch Better Together, a series of community conversations to discuss our hopes and dreams for our graduates, envision our shared future as a community, and determine a strategic direction to make our vision a reality. Nov. 10, 2022 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM at Page High School.

School dismissal will begin at 2:13, instruction ends at 2:10 pm. Please remember that you must have your government issued photo ID with you each time you need to pick your child up early for appointment and emergencies which must be before 1:45 pm. We ask that you limit picking your child up early because they are missing valuable instructional time when they are being picked up early multiple times.

We thank you so much for all that you do! Remember it is always a Great Day to Be a Brightwood Tiger! Have a wonderful evening remember to be amazing, because you are Amazing.

Love Always your proud Principal,

Ms. LaTrice Stokes
