Who is S.E. Hinton?

What you don't know
S.E. Hinton was a very private person so people don't know that much about her. For example not including her most famous book,The Outsiders, she wrote 6 other books. She also sold her first novel when she was 17 years old. Hinton received the Arrell Gibson Lifetime Award in 1997.
Young Life
Hinton was born on July 22, 1948. She began writing her first and most famous book, The Outsiders, in 1965. Her book sold more than 14 million copies. In 1970 she married her husband, David Inhofe. Together they had their son in August of 1983, Nicolas Inhofe.
Her Acting Career
Many of her novels were turned into movies. For example, In The Outsiders she played a nurse in Dallys hospital room. She also co-wrote the script for one of her books, Rumble Fish. In 1998 she was inducted into the Oklahoma Writers Hall of Fame.
Connection to Present Day
The outsiders is seen today because many schools are requiring their students to read it. The events that happened in this story still happen today. She was actually inspired to write The Outsiders after watching 2 gang rivals fight at her high school in Oklahoma.
