ACT FOcus--Trimester 2
Trimester 2 is when we all need to focus on the upcoming March ACT for our junior class. One of the biggest issues all students face when taking the ACT is timing. We ask that you give your students exposure to a timed testing format and allow students to track their own progress as they become more familiar with being timed. Give an ACT practice, but only give a portion of it at once with an equivalent fraction of time allotted. Then, gradually build up the length of these test throughout the trimester until your students see an improvement in pacing and are hitting the correct pace for a full-length test.
Upcoming Dates:
Dec 2nd--ACT Skills Session #2 for ALL Junior Students at SCC
Dec 13th--National Mock ACT for ALL Junior Students (we will measure growth from the Fall to the Winter test and set goals with students for the March ACT)

November/December
As mentioned at the beginning of the school year, our monthly Faculty and PLC meetings will not be held during the months of November and December. We will have Department meetings during these months, on the 2nd Wednesday. The dates for those meetings are 11/16 and 12/14 (not the 3rd Wednesday, schedule change due to Christmas break).
Each teacher will bring graded On Demand student writing samples to their December department meeting to discuss, so remember to practice with a prompt in at least 1 class of your choice sometime between now and the December meeting.

Feud for Food
Our annual school food drive is scheduled from November 3rd until November 18th. When students/teachers donate to the food drive, some of these donations are kept here at SWHS to serve families on weekends/holidays/emergency situations. Some of the donations are also donated to Project 58:10 or God's Food Pantry. Last year, our can count was 4533 items. Let's encourage our students to get more this year!
- 61% of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch
- During the 2015-16 school year, we had 8 students and families that were homeless
- 27% of Pulaski County youth live in poverty (Kids Count Data information)
