Reading 10:30-11:00

Monday: Dance - ordinary, extraordinary

Tuesday: The Gingerbread Man - Why did the gingerbread man run? How would the story have been different if the little old woman had made a gingerbread house instead of a man? What would have happened if the little gingerbread didn't run away? Was there any other way the gingerbread man could have gotten across the river?

Wednesday: From A to Z - Talk about the book, author, illustrator, etc. Read and discuss the ways fingers and hands are used.

Thursday: Dance - Display the cover and ask what the book is about. Read the story. Discuss targeted words, patiently, sheepishly, ordinary, and extrordinary. Ask what inspired the people in the deli to dance? How would the story have been different if the man and woman hadn't agreed to dance? Can you dance?

Friday: Our Muscles -

Discuss parts of the book: Front cover, back, spine, title, author and illustrator.

Show the book cover. Tell the children that as you read the story, they are to look for scooters and wagons.

Read the story.

Point out that we can move our bodies by using our muscles and bones. We can combine our body movements with vehicles like scooters, skates, wagons, wheelchairs, and swings to move more quickly. Ask why it is possible to move more quickly on a scooter than with our feet alone?
