PRAYER
Term Three Week Ten- Sept. 21st 2022
We thank you Lord, for this term. For the challenges, the successes, and the mistakes from which we have learnt. Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends.
Give us strength and courage to do what is right: to be witnesses of our faith.
Help us to be a practical Christian these holidays,
to appreciate what others, do for us, to give time and effort to help others.
To be peacemakers in our family. Keep us safe in our activities.
give us good rest and good fun. Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term.
We thank you for our classmates, teachers,
parents and a community that cares for us.
May we always be conscious of you in our lives.
Amen

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It is hard to believe that another term has speed past. I know that everyone is looking forward to the holidays. We have seen so many great achievements throughout the term. I love to watch our children achieve and interact with each other. I pray that everyone will take time out during the holidays to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
P & F
Our amazing P & F are once again are creating a special event for our families. After the great success of the movie at ACE cinema last term the P & F have decided to run another fun movie event during the holidays. The P & F have managed to organise the Super Pets movie for our school. The children were invited to once again participate in the colouring competition to win a free ticket to this fantastic movie. Tickets will be on sale as they were before so come and join us on Sunday 9th October at the movies.
Our P & F this year they are raising money to install air condition the School Hall which will be such an outstanding advantage for our school. This is something that all our community will enjoy as we all know that it can be very hot and cold in the hall. Thank you so much P & F.
Senior Sport Carnival
Due to the inclement weather, we have had to change the proposed date of the senior sport carnival. Our Physical Education Specialist Mr Harris and I took a walk out onto the field we found the grounds to be waterlogged. The middle of the running track was under water and while we expected two fine days on Thursday and Friday this would not have been enough time for the field to dry out sufficiently for the sport carnival to take place. I appreciate that this can be disappointing for our parents who have arranged to have the day off work, but the safety of our children must come first. The Sports Day has been rescheduled for Friday 14th October.
Performing Arts Festival
Congratulations to our choir that performed at the festival on Thursday 25th August under the direction of our choir mistress Mrs Nicole Boddy. We have just received the Merit Certificate for the choir’s performance on the day. Congratulations children amazing work from you all.
Play Group
Just a reminder that our playgroup is up and running on a Monday morning from the pre-kindergarten room from 9.00am – 11.00 am. We look forward to seeing our parents join in on the day and meet other families from our community or the wider community.
Traffic Issues
I would like to bring your attention to families that park in the kiss and drop zone in the afternoon. We have had a community member from outside our school contact us and advise that parents are parking out on Toodyay road to enter the school and this is causing a traffic nuisance for other road users. Could I please remind our school families to be mindful of this and try not to park on the street blocking traffic. Children are supervised and are able to be collected between 3.00pm to 3.30pm every day if perhaps a few changed their pickup time by five minutes this may elevate the issue. One of our families have been reported to be driving up the wrong side of the road, along with being illegal this could have caused an accident or worse serious injury. Please be patient when on the roads and consider others.
Pupil Free Day
Just a reminder that there is a pupil free day on Monday 10th October, we look forward to seeing the children return on Tuesday 11th October.
Confidence
Confidence is the full trust and belief in oneself, a self-reliance and assurance in one’s abilities. The ‘litmus test’ for the degree of confidence a student has can be tested by how they approach new challenges. Lack of confidence is one of the greatest barriers to successful learning.
Children who lack confidence have yet to learn that:
- Making mistakes is an essential part of learning.
- Important people love us for who we are, not for what we can do.
- We all have many skills that we have not yet discovered.
- Being successful means doing your best, not being better than other people.
Listed below are some ways in which you can help your child to become more confident, and therefore more successful as a learner:
- Be excited and interested in their achievements, no matter how small.
- Build on any special strengths with praise and new opportunities.
- Ensure that your children feel safe and supported in taking risks. Every child needs to learn that it is fine to make mistakes and that trying and not succeeding straight away is part of learning.
- Take a child’s interests and activities seriously. Let them see that their experiences are valuable.
- Ensure all challenges are realistic. Nothing succeeds like success and the more success children have the more confidence they bring to any new challenges.
- Carefully consider the place of competition in the life of the child. Despite what some people think, an individual’s success in life, in the things that matter, does not depend on being faster, stronger or smarter than other people. Success is about doing your best and being proud of yourself.
“If you think you can or if you think you can’t, you’re right either way.” Henry Ford
Developing Physical Skills
For young children, movement is at the centre of their lives and a major part of their development. Parents are in a unique position to guide and encourage their children in developing their physical skills. Children who are involved in physical activity every day are less likely to have problems with obesity, poor coordination or poor social skills. It is equally important to spend time throwing a ball or skipping with your child as it is to read stories with them on a regular basis.
The following activities are designed to develop balance, strength, coordination and body awareness and can be short, simple tasks to provide fun and fitness on a family walk in the park; others will require a degree of preparation. Have a go at some of these with your child:
- Stand on one leg like a stork and count to ten, then try the other leg.
- Stand on tiptoes and reach for the sky (or the top shelf).
- When a child is learning to hop, you can support their weight with a broomstick held horizontally by an adult.
- Walk forwards, backwards, sideways and on tiptoes along a line.
- Do bunny hops, bear walks, donkey kicks down the passage.
- Climb hills and stairs wherever possible (encourage alternating legs).
- Roll balls of different sizes along a line to an object or play skittles.
- Hit a ball or sock in a stocking with a ‘stick’ made from rolled up newspapers.
- Use a torch to track objects with eyes (around the body, along a line, around the door or window frame).
- Throw soft objects into a container (soft toys, socks).
- Walk along a rope or line (straight or curved, short or long).
- Make obstacle courses both inside and outside the house which involve climbing, crawling, throwing, bouncing or rolling.
- Play games like ‘Simon Says’.
Most of all…..HAVE FUN!!!
I hope you all enjoy the holidays and we look forward to seeing you all back safely next term on Tuesday 11th October.
God Bless
Paula MacKenzie

Year 5 Educational Research Projects
This afternoon I had the privilege of attending the showcase of the inaugural Year 5 Educational Research Projects. The students presented their projects on the topic of Natural Disasters and all did a wonderful job, we even had a couple of erupting volcanoes. Lots of questions were asked of the students concerning their individual topics and they all were able to confidently and competently able to answer all my questions to them. Congratulations and well done to the students and to Miss Laura Smith and Miss Aimee Mitchell for their guidance with the students. Some pictures below.

We will be celebrating All Saints Day with a whole school Mass at 9:15am in the Mary MacKillop Hall. All parents invited to join in the Mass.
After the mass the students will participate in a fun day of classroom run stalls and activities learning about our school founders.
What is Socktober?
Socktober cultivates the passion of students to rise up, engage their local community and take action against poverty through the world game of soccer.
It provides young people in Australia with the opportunity to lead in mission, encouraging them to think not only of what they will do to help, but why they will do it.
In Mission Week (23-28 October), and all through October we will celebrate with your students and bring global mission into the classroom and onto the playground. Run thought-provoking workshops, kick some of your goals together, and hold a Socktober soccer competition to raise funds and awareness.
About Catholic Mission
Catholic Mission, as the Australian agency of the Pontifical Mission Societies, contributes funding and provides project support to critical church-run initiatives in Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America as well as remote dioceses within Australia. Grassroots needs are identified by local Catholics, to give people the opportunity for a full, enriched life—physically and spiritually—regardless of race, stigma, religion or gender.
Our focus this year: Ethiopia
Throughout World Mission Month in 2022, we're highlighting stories of mission from our partner country, Ethiopia. Across Australia, students will learn about a different reality to their own, and support the nutrition, health and education needs of children in remote communities.
The Fathering Project
The secret to being a good father is intentionally giving 1%. Recently I was reading a article about how Americans spend time each day. I wasn’t surprised. We have an average of 5.3 hours of leisure time each day, and we spend more than half of it watching TV.
What are the facts?
So the average Dad will spend 178.5 minutes a day watching TV and only 3 minutes a day intentionally talking with each of his children.
Each day we spend more time getting dressed, waiting at a traffic light, or listening to a coworker’s story than we do intentionally talking with our children. Wow! I was stunned by this statistic.
That is, until I began to rewind the tape from the day before and ask myself how much intentional time had I spend talking with each of my three children. I quickly realized that I too was a 3-minuter.
So what can a Dad do to deliberately spend more quality time with his children? What is the secret to being a good, connected, purposeful Father?
Then, it hit me. Why don’t we each try the 1% Strategy? The 1% Strategy is simple. Each day contains 1,440 minutes. One percent of that = 14.4 minutes. If we spent 1% of our day intentionally engaging our kids, we would be doing 4X more than average. Could I make a commitment to talk with your son for 1% of each day? Could you join me?
Let’s talk about a few steps we can take to head down this path toward being a more engaged dad:
- Pray – Acknowledge that it’s easier for you to spend time watching TV than it is talking with your son or daughter. Admit that you want to do better – but aren’t always sure how to do that.
- Make it a priority – Put it on your calendar. We put all of the other “important” appointments and commitments on our calendar. Is time with our son any less important?
- Share this with your spouse – As men, we need someone who will lovingly keep us accountable. I guarantee that if you share with your wife/partner that you want to spend more time intentionally talking with your son or daughter – they will be on board.
- Be creative – There is nothing that shuts a child down more than when a parent walks in and says, “So, how’s it going? You want to talk about anything?” You can do better than that! Ask some good questions. Questions that don’t yield simple yes or no answers. Questions like: What was the funniest (best) thing that happened today? If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Who is your best friend? If you could change one rule in our house, what would it be? What three words best describe you? What is God trying to teach you right now?
- Review – Take time at the end of each week to see how you are doing. Or, if you’re feeling brave, ask your son/daughter how you are doing. You might be surprised at the answer you get.
Being a good father comes down to simply prioritizing intentional time with your son or daughter. And when you think about it, isn’t he or she worth 1% of your day?
