Workforce Ready Grant Information
"Starting in fall 2018, ALL Hoosiers with a high school diploma are eligible for the Workforce Ready Grant through Governor Holcomb’s Next Level Jobs Initiative! The Workforce Ready Grant allows students to earn a certificate in Indiana’s highest demand job sectors—tuition-free! Additionally, these programs typically count towards an associate degree.
The Workforce Ready Grant pays for many high-demand certificate programs, including practical nursing, dental assisting, welding, and automotive service technology (see attached). Students just need to file the FAFSA to be considered. Even students who missed the April 15th FAFSA deadline are eligible! To get connected with an eligible program, students can visit www.NextLevelJobs.org and click on “I’m a Next Level Job Seeker.” After completing the short questionnaire, Ivy Tech Community College or Vincennes University will reach out to the student to help them enroll."
Winter Percussion Named World Championship Finalist
The Scottsburg Winter Percussion traveled to Dayton, OH last Thursday to compete in the Winter Guard International (WGI) Percussion World Championships and wrap up their season. Scottsburg performed their show “Ville de Lumiére: City of Light” at Northmont High School and finished in the top 6 of their class, Percussion Scholastic Concert A, which qualified them for World Championship Finals! This was the 2ndtime in school history that our Winter Percussion advanced to World Finals. For a school the size of Scottsburg, this is a huge accomplishment; several of the competing schools are of much larger size and have many more resources.
This was also a national-scale competition, as groups traveled from as far as California and Massachusets. Scottsburg then competed last Friday night at the Wright State University Nutter Center for a World Championship in their class, but came up short after an incredible performance of their show, the best of the season, finishing in 6thplace. Regardless of the placement, the members and staff of the ensemble met their ultimate goal of advancing to WGI Finals.
Congratulations to the students, staff, and directors for this incredible accomplishment, and congratulations on an outstanding, successful season!

Symphonic Band Earns Gold & Captures “All-Music” Award
Last weekend, the Band of Warriors Symphonic Band traveled to Columbus North High School to participate in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) District Concert Organizational Festival. This is an annual event the band participates in to be assessed on their performance and learning as an ensemble. This also helps determine if the teaching is at a satisfactory level or not. The band is judged for a stage performance of three pieces of music, each of contrasting styles, by three separate judges. The band then goes into a separate area to be judged on how well the band sight-reads a piece of music for the very first time. There are 9 separate areas on the score sheet a band is judged in, and like golf, the lower the score received, the better. A band must score between a 9 and a 13.5 to receive a Gold rating. We are proud to report that the Scottsburg Symphonic Band received a solid gold rating from all four judges, receiving an 11.5 from three of the judges, and a 10 from the other judge!
Scottsburg entered the festival in Group 1, the highest and most difficult group entry level in the state. The long tradition of band excellence here at Scottsburg has continued with this Gold rating. In fact, the top band in our school’s history has never received lower than a Gold/Division 1 rating. This is an incredible accomplishment. Also, with this gold rating, the band has fulfilled all the requirements to receive the ISSMA “All-Music” Award for band!
To be eligible for this award, a band program in the state must meet the following criteria: Receive a Gold Rating at a marching band ISSMA Regional contest or qualify for State Marching Band Finals, have a Soloist or Ensemble receive a Gold Rating in Group 1 at the District Solo & Ensemble Level and qualify for State Solo & Ensemble, receive a Gold rating in any Jazz Festival event, and receive a Gold Rating in any Concert Organizational Festival. Scottsburg has now received the “All-Music” award for the third-straight year and 4thyear in program history.
Congratulations to our Symphonic Band on their accomplishments over the weekend!
