Eagle News
January 17, 2024
From Dr. Davis
Happy New Year! 2024 has roared like a lion with this cold snap that we're experiencing. As a reminder when there is a 2 hour morning delay, UPES students are to arrive at school at 9:40 a.m. School buses will arrive 2 hours later than their regular schedule When there is a 2 Hour Early Release Day, UPES students are dismissed at 11:55 a.m. Please ensure the classroom teachers have updated contact information in the event of an emergency.
Monday, January 22, 2024, will be a 3 Hour Asynchronous Day for students. That means all students will be at home completing their work offline. All classroom teachers will provide parents and students with the assignments and directions for the Asynchronous work day no later than the end of the day Thursday, January 18, 2024.
Thank you to the Teacher Appreciation Committee for continuing to shower us with the treats. We are looking forward to the Bagel Bonanza. Thank you so much!
We will publish the next Eagle Newsletter Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) continues to follow the state and local guidance in the collection of student and teacher attendance. Administrative Procedure 5113 identifies this process for lawful and unlawful absences. PGCPS is responsible for identifying, collecting, and transmitting data to local, state, and federal agencies for purposes of compliance, accountability, and school system funding for student attendance. Strong monitoring of systems, implementation of a streamlined process, and using objective and accurate data related to attendance collection is crucial. Physical attendance of staff and students will be collected in the 2023-2024 school year and daily attendance procedures will be communicated so all stakeholders are aware of PGCPS’ definition of being considered present.

Per the PGCPS Virtual Day Instruction Plan for 2023-2034, if PGCPS exceeds the three built-in incremental weather days, the additional incremental weather days (up to five) will be virtual and synchronous.
SYNCHRONOUS learning is interactive, virtual/distance education that happens in real time where students receive direct instruction from a teacher. During virtual synchronous learning days, students will connect to a teacher live via a device. In the event of synchronous instruction, students will need a device.
There is a take home option for PGCPS student Chromebooks. Devices may be needed for daily instruction and/or for virtual learning if your child does not have a device at home to use. If you choose, we can assign your child a device to take home with them after you complete and sign the Student Device Usage Agreement form. If you are interested in the take home option, please complete the UPES Student Device Take Home Option Google form. Those interested will receive additional information.
Thank you for your continued support of our student device program in Prince George’s County Public Schools.
If you have questions, please contact Mr. Clark at aclark@pgcps.org.
