Important Dates

September 17 - Fun Fitness

September 18 - Early Release Day

September 19 - Community Project due

September 22 - Fall Pictures

September 30 - Field Trip to Lexington County Museum

Please note...

  • Due to our class size and number of classes this year, we have had to extend the field trip from two days to three days to accommodate all classes. There are space issues and Lexington County Museum has asked that we limit our parents to 5 per class. These parents will ride on the buses with us. There is no parking at the museum, and they have asked that additional parents not follow the buses. Thank you for your help with this.
  • Active Gamecock Physical Activity Logs are due September 19th.
  • A Scholastic order form should be in your child's yellow folder. If you are interested in ordering any books, please return the order by Friday, September 26th.

Language Arts

Spelling went well last week. Just a few reminders. The spelling list for the week will be on notebook paper that is attached to the center of the folder. The spelling activity sheet which lists the spelling activities your child will be completing for homework should be in the front pocket. (If this activity sheet is misplaced, or your child forgets their spelling folder, you can download and print both the activity sheet and the spelling words from our classroom website.) In the back pocket, there should be extra notebook paper. Please have your child do their spelling activity on the notebook paper in the back pocket, and when it is completed, return it to the back pocket of the folder. I will take up all spelling homework on Friday of each week.

There will be 16 words each week. The "sound out" words are words that follow the spelling pattern we are studying. The "spell out" words are high frequency words that do not follow any specific pattern. If your child goes to Spelling City, there will be additional words on the list that follow the spelling pattern, not the exact ten words that I have assigned. This week we will continue practicing what to do when you come to a word you don't know, review alphabetical order, and discuss characters, setting, problem and solution when reading a story.

This week we will complete Chapter 1 in My Math. I am planning to test Chapter 1 next Tuesday, September 23rd. A review sheet will come home next Monday for homework before the test.

We will begin addition fact quizzes on Thursday, September 25th. The first test will include all 0 and 1 facts. Please help your child prepare for addition fact quizzes in the coming weeks. Quizzes will be given on Thursdays. Students will be given 2 minutes to complete each quiz. If a student misses more than two facts, they will retake the same fact test the following Thursday or when they feel ready. As students master each quiz, they will then move to the next group of facts. There are flash cards on our classroom website if you would like to print them out. They can also make their own flash cards at home. Thanks for your support. Fact fluency is very important as we begin adding and subtracting two digit numbers with and without regrouping this year. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Social Studies

This week we are continuing to discuss what laws are and people that work in communities. Don't forget that community projects are due this Friday. Please help your child practice presenting this project to the class.
