THE GOTHS
DIVISION
In 370 AD the Goths seperated into two divisions. The Ostragoths "east goths" and the Visigoths "noble goths".

VISIGOTHS
The Goths were a peaceful society located in Balkin, near the Black Sea. They had an economy based on agriculture and trade. They had a complex political system. Each Goth owed alliegance to their individual clan chieftans. In times of need a single leader was elected by a tribal council.
Destruction
In 375 AD the Huns come into Balkin from China and destroy Goth land. This destroys life as the Goths know it. In effect, the Visigoths turn to Rome for shelter, food, and protection. The Ostragoths however were conquered.

Visigoths and Rome
After exploiting the Visigoths too much, the Visigoths turned against their "nuturing protectors" the Romans. In 410 AD the Visigoths, led by Alaric, ransacked the city of Rome. They occupied it for three days, burning whatever they didnt take.

Alaric was the leader of the Visigoth people. He led the ransacking of Rome in 410 AD.
Regaining of Freedom
In 453 AD the Ostragoths regained their freedom from the Huns when Attila died.

The Ostragoths were a part of the mongul army until 453 AD.
The most important Ostragoth leader was Theodoric, who reigned from 493 to 526 AD. Theodoric continued the old Roman law, taxation, and administrative systems.

The End
During the sixth century, after 18 years of fighting, the Ostragothic kingdom fell at the hands of emperor Justinian.
