The 2018-2019 School Year is ALMOST HERE!
Less than TWO WEEKS to go before our Wildcats return to the halls of LNHS for the 2018-19 school year!
Please review the following items for important information regarding your child's return to LN for the upcoming school year:
Back to School Events and Opportunities
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION will be held on Tuesday, July 24th, for those 9th grade students who have RSVP'd for the event. Please check your confirmation to determine which session your child will be attending.

**Students unable to attend the Chromebook sessions will receive their Chromebook, ID and textbooks on either Thursday or Friday, August 2nd or 3rd.
IMPORTANT NOTE--Chromebooks will be issued to the receiving student ONLY (parents will not be issued a Chromebook for their student even with the student ID) and student MUST HAVE A CURRENT LN ID.
Parking Passes are required for student vehicles parked in the LN lot during the school day. Parking passes are $40 and the REQUIRED PARKING FORM is linked here.
SUMMER READING -- there is STILL TIME to complete the summer reading assignments from our English department. Open the SUMMER READING link to review the expectation for your student.
Textbook/Lunch Assistance -- parents must submit an application online before October 1st to be considered for assistance for the 2018-19 school year. Go to the PAYPAMS WEBSITE, select "INDIANA" and School District "MSD LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP" to complete your application.
TRANSPORTATION -- watch your EMAIL for detailed instructions about bus pick-up/drop-off locations and times for your child. This information will be arriving on July 26th. Direct additional questions to Transportation at 317-423-8400
CALENDARS are available on the LN WEBSITE. Printing a color copy of the GREEN/RED DAY calendar can be very helpful for family scheduling and planning.
The FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is Thursday, August 2nd. LN will be on a GREEN DAY schedule with blocks 1, 2, 3 and 4 meeting the first day. Students will report to their 1st period class--that is G1--before 8:50 a.m. Students will complete a full day of classes with dismissal at 3:40 p.m. Students will return on Friday, August 3rd for their first RED DAY of classes--blocks 5, 6, 7, 8.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES -- students should arrive with a CHARGED Chromebook, notebook, folder, pen and pencil. Teachers will provide students with additional information during the first week of classes if special supplies are required for a class.
SCHEDULE CHANGES
Students will receive a PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE during Chromebook check-out. As new students enroll--we are expecting a freshman class OVER 700 students this year, staffing adjustments must be made to balance classes and provide core, quality instruction for all of our students. These adjustments MAY result in a change to your child's schedule prior to the first day of classes. Please have your child review his/her schedule in SKYWARD beginning WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1st.
Students will view their final schedules on Thursday, August 2nd, during their G1 class.
*Requests for schedule changes are no longer available. All requests submitted by May 31st have been processed.
**Errors in a student schedule (duplicate course, course level, etc.) will be corrected as schedule changes. Any errors should be EMAILED to the assigned counselor. The student should review Skyward to be alerted to the completion of the schedule change.
***Students will be asked to review schedules for SPRING semester beginning November 1st. Any requests for a schedule change for spring must be submitted before November 30th.
***IMPORTANT NOTE***
Returning 11th and 12th graders--your English placement for 2018-19 MAY CHANGE based on Spring 2018 ISTEP performance. Check your ISTEP SCORE online when notified by the Indiana DOE this summer. Students earning "PASS" scores on ISTEP will not be scheduled into regular English 11 or English 12 and should adjust summer reading accordingly.

Once you've completed Alg I, Geom and Alg 2, you are ready to test. Register for either or both tests NOW to reserve your spot AND you can begin to prep for your test.

COLLEGE and CAREER INFO
“The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change" ― Heraclitus
We are always looking to the future and working with students to help each find his/her best path after Lawrence North. It is not only NORMAL, but expected for teenagers to change their minds, discover new interests and discard old ideas as they consider "what they want to be when they grow up!" Helping students discover their passion(s) is one of the biggest bonuses in education!
Due to staffing changes and some restructuring, our College & Career Coordinator--Mrs. Anderson--will be working with our incoming 9th graders in the Freshman School for 2018-19. Your child's assigned counselor will resume the role of college and career counselor, as before Mrs. Anderson's arrival. We will not miss a beat!
Please watch this listserv message for weekly information regarding college representative visits, military information, career opportunities and much more. Plus, if you "like" the Lawrence North High School Facebook page, you'll get information and updates in your FB scroll. As always, contact your child's assigned counselor with any specific questions or inquiries regarding opportunities AFTER Lawrence North.
SPIRIT WEAR COLLECTION
The National Honor Society will be collecting spirit wear with boxes available in the main office AND at LN football games this fall. Please share with other LN families who may no longer get the listserv or the Sunday night phone calls. "And...GO CATS!"
Parenting Teens
Getting Your Teen Ready for Back-to-School
We are inside of two weeks until the new school year begins! For many, the ease of summer is quickly replaced with academic challenges, an alarm clock, homework assignments, juggling school with athletics/clubs/work/etc., reestablishing a routine...and all that comes with navigating active social lives of teenagers. This interactive checklist article from US News is a couple of years old, but hits on some important insights and ideas for parents prepping for students to return to a school routine.
Enjoy the last few weeks of summer break and enjoy your awesome kids!
LN Athletics
Check out the LN Athletics website for up-to-date information for ALL of our LN teams.
NCAA and College Athletics
Now is a great time to review the timeline for college eligibility and help your student-athlete stay on track during high school. Use the NCAA FOLLOW YOUR PATH roadmap to plan with your student for athletics after high school.
Emphasize to your STUDENT-athlete the importance of starting his/her academic record with strong grades. It is much better to work consistently and with effort during freshman year to lay a solid foundation of academic achievement than it is to try to recover poor grades and prop up a low GPA at crunch time--junior year.
