Veteran's day Program is on Friday, November 11th WEAR RED, WHITE AND BLUE
Dear Parents,
On November 11th, at 9:30 am, Shoemaker School is celebrating Veteran’s Day. On this occasion, we are holding our monthly “Mustang Meeting” and having a special ceremony involving many different ways to help us remember and honor those who are serving in the military or who have served in the past. All of the grades have a special part in this ceremony. We realize that the students of Shoemaker School may have some veterans in their families, and we would love for these special family members to come to school that morning. All parents are welcome!
Regards,
Veteran’s Day Committee
From Mrs. Ringer...
Dear Parents,
Where is the year going? I cannot believe that it is almost Thanksgiving! So many exciting events have already occurred. We put together 20 clean up kits to help with the hurricane damage down South. Our canned food drive for the Zionsville Food Pantry was wonderful. We collected 2,067 items. We appreciate all of the donations and I know the food pantry does too. The Community Service Club participated in UNICEF again this year. We will let you know our total in the December newsletter.
Coming up for the holidays, beginning immediately and running through December 15th, we will be collecting gently used coats, hats, gloves, & scarves for New Bethany Ministries in Allentown. They service the homeless and those in need from the inner city. We are also participating in Toys for Tots. Please send in a new, unwrapped toy to help make the holidays brighter for a child. All toys will need to be here by Dec. 10th. Let your friends and family know that we are an official drop-off location.
The guidance lessons for October centered around the theme of respect. Since respect can look different to different people, we have made this a big yearlong topic as we try to help our teachers teach the children what our expectations for respect look like. As always, we appreciate your support in modeling this behavior as well and having those expectations for your children at school and on the bus.
The guidance lessons for November are centered around the theme of Citizenship because in November we participate in Veteran’s Day, Election Day and Thanksgiving. For this theme, we will be talking about making good choices and the difference between tattling and telling which will help the children become good citizens. In 5th grade, we are spending the year talking about the difference between rude, mean and bullying behavior.
Rude – unplanned, inconsiderate, thoughtless, not meant to hurt someone
Mean – purposely saying or doing something to hurt someone once (or maybe twice)
Bullying – Intentionally aggressive, mean behavior that is repeated over time, and involves the Bully having more power than the target.
If we overuse the term bullying, we lessen its seriousness.
As always, I thank you for all that you do for our school and your children. Also, I truly appreciate anyway that you are able to help with our projects. Together we can make a difference.

E.P.S.D. Foundation Card Design
A few 5th grade students at Shoemaker were asked to design holiday cards to help support the all-new East Penn School District Foundation. When all designs were completed, Foundation Board Members selected one design that would be used for upcoming cards that would be used throughout the entire school district when a donation is made in a teacher's name to the foundation.
On Wednesday, Community Liaison Laura Groh, came to Shoemaker's Art Room to congratulate Colin Wilson with winning the competition! Thank you to all the students who participated and to Colin Wilson of Room 52 for his amazing card design!
Art Club Paints Windows
Mr. Shreck's 5th grade Art Club traveled to the Saucon Valley Promenade's Carmike Movie Theatre last Saturday to share their talents with the community. All 20 students designed concept drawings in class for a mural showcasing upcoming movies Star Wars: Rouge One and the animated movie Sing! These images were then drawn on the windows by Mr. Shreck which took a total of 4 hours. It then took an additional 4 hours for the Art Club and their families to outline and paint in the images.
Well done Art Club!
Canned FOOD DRIVE...we collected 2,067 items! THANK YOU!
