Class Updates
By Mr. Cook, Mrs. Gaal, Ms Marrion & Mr. Wyman
Math/Science:
In math, students took their unit test this week. The returned test is coming home today, so please have your child show it to you.
Humanities:
After several weeks of anticipation, we finally watched the movie version of The Giver. Students were engaged watching it and having discussions after it was over. Some of the questions that we discussed after had to do with different roles of the characters, scenes that were omitted from the movie, as well as questions they would like to ask the screenwriter. Students also observed the many differences between the two versions, and ultimately, were asked to choose one to recommend to someone. Please ask them to share the video that they completed convincing someone to either read the book or watch the movie, depending on which one they enjoyed more.
All students also led the class in an activity, game or presentation for their “making connections” group project. As you know, students were asked to make connections between previous units such as Esperanza Rising/Immigration, the Civilization project, the unit on power, and our global issues unit. I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of creativity and critical thinking that was evident throughout this project. Students worked really hard to create lessons that were fun and engaging for their peers to participate in. Please follow up with your child about which activities they chose to lead as the “teachers” for the day.
