Westwood Elementary

News and Information for our Wildcat Community

Giving Thanks

This newsletter is dedicated to all those who make Westwood Mt. Diablo Unified's best kept secret. It takes a lot of folks, and a ton of love and dedication, to make Westwood more than just a school... We are a community! A definition of 'community' is "a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals." I'm sure we can all agree that we share a common goal of providing the highest quality educational experience we can for our students, while continuing to develop their sense of curiosity and love of learning. We want each child to feel motivated by the experience of achieving personal success, as well as by the responsibility they have to making a positive contribution to our school community (and beyond). Visitors to our campus often comment on what a "warm and welcoming" environment we have created, and I can't think of a better compliment! Thank you Wildcats!

Now Accepting School Site Council Nominations

Being a member of the School Site Council gives you the opportunity to be a part of the decisions that drive our success! The Council meets monthly to review/revise our Single Plan for Student Achievement, and to make related budgeting decisions. Pick up a nomination form in the office, or simply email Mrs. Klinkner at klinknern@mdusd.org if you're interested. Nominations will be accepted through October 21st.

Parents of students who are 'emerging bilinguals' (learning English as a second language) are invited to be part of these important meetings that help you understand how we can work together to support your child's academic success. Join us this coming Friday, 12/13 at 2:30 in the Library for our monthly English Learning Advisory Committee (ELAC) meeting. Interpretation services are available upon request. Child care and light refreshments are available. Bring a friend!

Special Education Community Advisory Committee - Representative Needed

This board-approved committee provides a forum for parents to engage with our SELPA on matters relating to special education. This includes all areas including programming, transportation, staffing, and student outcomes. The CAC meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month and is open to all community members, regardless of if they are a parent or caregiver of a student in our district. If you have a child in the Special Education program, and would be interested in representing Westwood at these meetings, please contact Mrs. Klinkner at 925-685-4202. Site representatives will be invited to attend the meetings and periodically share events and news about programs, strengths and challenges about special education at your site. We truly want to provide the best customer service we can to our students and while we are all aware of challenges, we also want to hear from our experts, our students and families, about ways in which we can support them! See flyer for more details.
