Software Revision Guide
Application Software
Application software is different to system software. It does not control how the system works, instead it allows you to do your every day tasks on the computer such as writing a letter, sending an email, making a poster or downloading a web page. Application software includes programs like: Microsoft Word, Open Office, Adobe Flash professional and Microsoft Power Point.
Utility Software
Utility software is designed to do one or perhaps two tasks very well and nothing else.
For example, you may want to compress a file to let you save it on to a flash drive. For this task you would choose to use a file compression utility program.
Development Software
Development software is programs which allow the user to create and edit sub-programs. For example: Visual Basic and Python.
