Grandparent's Day Information
Tuesday, November 19, 2019, will be our Annual Grandparent’s/Grand Friend Day Open House. We would like to invite grandparents and/or special friends of our students to visit our school on this evening. We recognize the important role grandparents and special friends play in our student’s lives. This will be a special evening event for everyone and will include a Veteran’s Salute in the gym along with a quick presentation of our Quilt of Valor to a very special veteran. We will also be able to have the Book Fair open for our guests to visit and do some book shopping.
Below is an agenda for the evening and some important information that we hope will help plan your visit. The evening will be an opportunity for your child(ren) to give some special people in their lives a glimpse of what they do during the day. We will give you a Passport style flier that will help you document all the places your child will take you to until we ask you to make your way to the gym for our special Veteran ceremony at 6:15PM. The evening will then conclude at the end of our presentation at 6:30PM.
There will be 5 places you want to make sure your child takes you to visit so you can get your passport stamped by the teacher at each location. Once your passport is filled, you will want to drop it off in the south gym doorways as you make your way into the gym. We will draw for book vouchers for the book fair on Wednesday morning and will let your child know right away if they won something! Just make sure you fill out your child’s name clearly on the Passport before you turn it in.
The 5 places you will need to visit between 5PM and 6:15PM include:
· The cafeteria to visit with our Family Teacher Organization and purchase spirit sticks. No purchase necessary to get your Passport stamped! Just come meet our hard-working FTO!
· The book fair that will be held in the media center. (You will be able to shop from 3:30-5PM before our event starts and we will also have the book fair open the previous week during Parent/Teacher Conferences.)
· Your child(ren)’s classroom for a special activity.
· The playground so you can see where our Cardinals play each day.
· Each specialist including Music, Art, Media, and PE. You will be able to see where they go for specials each day!
Remember, these are not in any special order so you may go to any of the above places at any time in open house style.
We look forward to seeing all of you on November 19th!

FLU SEASON!
Flu season is among us! The CDC recommends these primary means to reduce the spread of influenza in schools: early identification of ill students, staying home when ill and good cough & hand hygiene etiquette.
This includes:
• Those who are ill with a flu-like symptoms should be instructed to remain home from school. The CDC recommends to remain at home at least 24 hours after fever resolves (100 degrees) without the use of fever-reducing medications.
• Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Catch your Cough! Always cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing. If you use a tissue, make sure to dispose of it in the trash and wash your hands.
• Avoid sharing drinks, water bottles or silverware with others.
• Get your flu vaccine yearly; not just to protect you, but to protect those around you as well.
Comments from the Counselor
Mrs. Jennifer Boyer
In counseling class with Mrs. Boyer and her practicum student Miss Nolan, students have been learning about keeping themselves safe using the Second Steps curriculum. They have learned about the 3 R’s-Recognize, Refuse, Report. We have also used these 3 R’s to help learn about bully prevention. We will soon learn the importance and power of bystanders in bullying.
Please ask your child(ren) what they are learning about in counseling class.
