Greetings CES Families,
We had an outstanding first day of school as we welcomed all of our CES students back for our 2019-2020 school year. I'm amazed at how much everyone has grown! It must be that clean mountain water they're drinking!
CES Improvements! We're excited to have a new paint job, new furniture, upgraded bathrooms and new blacktop. We want to thank our families for supporting Measure B funding.
Back to school night - Thursday, August 22nd, 6:00 pm. We'll meet in the gym for some introductions, then transition to your child's classroom(s). We hope you can make it to meet your child's teacher(s), learn about the exciting year ahead and get some insight on the teachers' expectations.
Start times in 2019-2020. Please note - starting in 2019-2020, our 1st bell will ring at 8:10, and the tardy bell will ring at 8:15. We will dismiss TK at 12:25, K at 2:30 (1:25 on Mondays) and the rest of the students at 2:35 (1:30 on Mondays). We will have supervision starting at 7:45 each morning. We appreciate all of our families refraining from dropping their child off before 7:45.
Know anyone looking for part time swing shift work (3:00-8:00 pm weekdays)? We have a 5 hour custodial position available. If interested, please visit the following website - we appreciate any help in getting the word out. Thanks!

Principal's Homework 2019-2020 - for students and parents/guardians.
I would like to challenge all of our families this school year to try and carve out 20 minutes/night for any 4 days of the week, as a special family reading time. This could include children and adults all reading independently on some nights, taking turns reading and sharing what you are reading on other nights, and discussing as a family the content being read. It is crucial for our children to see the important adults in their lives also reading and sharing their fascination and love of reading. The research on reading practice has numerous benefits for children (ex improved fluency, increased vocabulary, higher level thinking, less screen time, improved social skills, etc. - Google it - you'll be amazed!), and I hope this will be a special time in the evening for your family. I'd love to receive pictures of your family reading and sharing their books at home! Please email me your photos if you would like at areeder@pcoe.k12.ca.us (heads up - I may throw them in an upcoming newsletter.) For additional information, check out this Scholastic article on discussing books with your child.
(Please note - my request is not above and beyond what your child's teacher may also be requesting - we're trying to accomplish the same goal of practice reading 20+ minutes a few nights/week. Thanks!)
Fall Soccer - hurry and act now - please see the flyer attached.
In closing, we look forward to an outstanding 2019-2020. With a strong teaching and support staff, motivated students and engaged parents our students will enjoy an exceptional elementary experience. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to give us a call or drop us an email.
