PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Happy Holidays Parents!

Today we ended the semester in a jubilant way! With exams over and the grading period at a close, our students and teachers were in high spirits and proud of their accomplishments. This first semester has been filled with learning, clubs, WINN class lessons, a forward focus on colleges, AVID student organization strategies, and a drive to make our Titans strong in literacy.

Our teachers and staff were surprised and delighted to be treated to a Continental Breakfast by our amazing PTSA. Our staff dressed in festive sweaters and sang "The 12 Days of Holiday Break," an original improv holiday carol. After the song, we gave a fond farewell to our Tech Specialist Mr. Granville Broomes who will be teaching AP Computer Science at Centennial High School next semester.

My wish is for all Titans to celebrate the holiday break by being Smart, Happy, and Connected.

  • Smart - Read a favorite book, and to complete the i-Ready Challenge!
  • Happy - Relax and do something fun like play a card or board game, go to a movie, get outdoors and then enjoy some hot chocolate, or go on an adventure.
  • Connected - Spend time with your family and cherished friends, or invite a new acquaintance to spend time with you. Encourage your children to take a break from cell phones/video games in order to engage in a deep conversation with their grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. by sharing dreams, aspirations, family history, and traditions.

Sing, read, enjoy your downtime, eat yummy holiday foods, spend time with loved ones, and be merry over the break. I am looking forward to doing all of these things too. In 2018, we shall meet again, relaxed, rested, and ready to go higher still in our learning.

Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year!

The contest, which will run until Monday, January 29th, will be judged by a panel including Atlanta Dream president, Theresa Wenzel, to choose contest winners in three categories – Elementary, Middle School, and High School. Each winner will receive tickets to the first 2018 Dream game, be recognized in a game and will receive a school visit from the franchise. The High School winner, one boy, and one girl will also be eligible to receive a $250 scholarship from the Atlanta Dream Youth Foundation.

Entering its historic 11th season, the Atlanta Dream has been connected to Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech from the very beginning. The original Circle of Friends, a group that led to the founding of the organization, took the speech into consideration when naming the franchise.

  • The essay submission should be submitted as an attachment and sent to JrDream@atlantadream.net no later than January 29, 2018. All documents should include the student’s first and last name, school, grade, teacher and guardian contact info.
  • A panel of judges including the president of the Atlanta Dream, Theresa Wenzel, will review the essays and select the winners. Winners will be notified in February.
  • All participants receive a buy one get one free ticket voucher in the Jr. Dream section to the 2018 Home opener and enrolled as a Jr. Dream member.
  • Two winners (one girl and one boy) will be selected from elementary, middle, and high school equaling (6) total winners. The (6) winners will be recognized by the court during the home opener. Scoliosis Training - Screening

Attention Elkins Pointe Parents: WE NEED VOLUNTEERS for the Scoliosis Screening event on Friday, February 2nd, from 12 noon - 3:30 pm. This is a really important event because between the ages of 11-14 is the prime period of identification for scoliosis of the spine, and early detection and early treatment is the key to reversing scoliosis so it is not a life-long problem. Can we count on you to help Elkins Pointe MS with this event?

  • Jan. 24 - Scoliosis Volunteer Training @ North Learning Center @ 9-11 AM * 20 Screeners Needed

  • Feb. 2 - Scoliosis Screening of 6th-grade/8th-grade @ Elkins Pointe MS @ 12-4 PM

Please see SignupGenius below if you can sign up as a volunteer. We will feed you lunch, snacks, and coffee during the day :-). For those that were certified through training last year, you do not have to retake the training course. For those that are new to scoliosis screening, or have not been re-certified in the last 2 years, you will be required to attend the training session on January 24th, from 9-11 am at the North Learning Center, in Sandy Springs. Please, direct questions to Jennifer Rodman: jcrodman@yahoo.com.

February 16th is a School Day

Make-Up Day for Elkins Pointe Middle School - 2/16

Fulton County Schools announced it will make-up one of the three school days missed as a result of Hurricane Irma on February 16th. The 16th of February was originally a holiday for students and staff. All Fulton County Schools were closed from September 11th -13th due to widespread power outages throughout the county. Fulton County is permitted to excuse the two days which the Governor declared of a State of Emergency, but has scheduled 2/16/2017 as an instructional day to make-up for the additional day.

Titans Got Talent Expo - 4/12

GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER because the Elkins Pointe Talent Expo is coming to a Stage near you … The PTSA and the Drama Club are proud to present “Titans’ Got Talent!” for a one-night-only Show on Friday, April 13th! This is a talent "showcase", NOT a contest, so don't be shy and join in on the FUN!

Talent/Act submission forms will be available soon in Titan Talk and on the PTSA website.

Students wanting to participate will be required to turn-in this "Act Proposal" Form on Feb. 21/22 at the after-school meetings to go over the details of the act and what will be needed on stage for the performance. In addition, if you have dreams of being the Show’s Emcee, announcing each act with your own flair, you will have the opportunity to audition for that role at the Feb 21/22 meetings.

So, please start brainstorming what talents you would like to share on stage with your Elkins Pointe community at the Talent Expo, and have your proposal ready for submission by February 21st. Any questions, please direct to Jennifer Rodman, jcrodman@yahoo.com.
