PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Happy Holidays Parents!
Today we ended the semester in a jubilant way! With exams over and the grading period at a close, our students and teachers were in high spirits and proud of their accomplishments. This first semester has been filled with learning, clubs, WINN class lessons, a forward focus on colleges, AVID student organization strategies, and a drive to make our Titans strong in literacy.
Our teachers and staff were surprised and delighted to be treated to a Continental Breakfast by our amazing PTSA. Our staff dressed in festive sweaters and sang "The 12 Days of Holiday Break," an original improv holiday carol. After the song, we gave a fond farewell to our Tech Specialist Mr. Granville Broomes who will be teaching AP Computer Science at Centennial High School next semester.
My wish is for all Titans to celebrate the holiday break by being Smart, Happy, and Connected.
- Smart - Read a favorite book, and to complete the i-Ready Challenge!
- Happy - Relax and do something fun like play a card or board game, go to a movie, get outdoors and then enjoy some hot chocolate, or go on an adventure.
- Connected - Spend time with your family and cherished friends, or invite a new acquaintance to spend time with you. Encourage your children to take a break from cell phones/video games in order to engage in a deep conversation with their grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. by sharing dreams, aspirations, family history, and traditions.
Sing, read, enjoy your downtime, eat yummy holiday foods, spend time with loved ones, and be merry over the break. I am looking forward to doing all of these things too. In 2018, we shall meet again, relaxed, rested, and ready to go higher still in our learning.

The contest, which will run until Monday, January 29th, will be judged by a panel including Atlanta Dream president, Theresa Wenzel, to choose contest winners in three categories – Elementary, Middle School, and High School. Each winner will receive tickets to the first 2018 Dream game, be recognized in a game and will receive a school visit from the franchise. The High School winner, one boy, and one girl will also be eligible to receive a $250 scholarship from the Atlanta Dream Youth Foundation.
Entering its historic 11th season, the Atlanta Dream has been connected to Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech from the very beginning. The original Circle of Friends, a group that led to the founding of the organization, took the speech into consideration when naming the franchise.
Essay Contest Details:
- Every essay should start with “I have a dream….” From that point, it is up to the student to express his or her dream in 300-500 words. In one paragraph, the student should describe if money wasn’t an issue what your dream job or dream college would be.
- The essay submission should be submitted as an attachment and sent to JrDream@atlantadream.net no later than January 29, 2018. All documents should include the student’s first and last name, school, grade, teacher and guardian contact info.
- A panel of judges including the president of the Atlanta Dream, Theresa Wenzel, will review the essays and select the winners. Winners will be notified in February.
- All participants receive a buy one get one free ticket voucher in the Jr. Dream section to the 2018 Home opener and enrolled as a Jr. Dream member.
- Two winners (one girl and one boy) will be selected from elementary, middle, and high school equaling (6) total winners. The (6) winners will be recognized by the court during the home opener. Make-Up Day for Elkins Pointe Middle School - 2/16
Fulton County Schools announced it will make-up one of the three school days missed as a result of Hurricane Irma on February 16th. The 16th of February was originally a holiday for students and staff. All Fulton County Schools were closed from September 11th -13th due to widespread power outages throughout the county. Fulton County is permitted to excuse the two days which the Governor declared of a State of Emergency, but has scheduled 2/16/2017 as an instructional day to make-up for the additional day.

Talent/Act submission forms will be available soon in Titan Talk and on the PTSA website.
Students wanting to participate will be required to turn-in this "Act Proposal" Form on Feb. 21/22 at the after-school meetings to go over the details of the act and what will be needed on stage for the performance. So, please start brainstorming what talents you would like to share on stage with your Elkins Pointe community at the Talent Expo, and have your proposal ready for submission by February 21st. Any questions, please direct to Jennifer Rodman, jcrodman@yahoo.com.
