Meet the FVRC 2016-2017 Board of Directors
Denise Mitchell Co-President
As I start my 4th year on the Fox Valley Reading Council Executive Board, I am excited to serve the council as Co-President with Bobette Dodson. Sharing ideas with colleges who teach at all levels keeps me sharp and up to date with current best practice. Entering my 25th year as a high school social studies teacher and reading specialist, I have seen first hand how applying reading and writing strategies into the content gives students an academic advantage. I live in South Elgin with my husband Brian and my four children. I have a unique perspective this year because I have children attending three different schools. I look forward to graduating elementary school at the end of this year when my youngest, Jaxon moves to middle school next year. I appreciate the dedication, time and effort that the teachers in District 303 put into preparing my children to problem solve their way through the next grade level. This year when you are asked to do “one more thing”, remember you have the ability to change the lives of your students in a positive way, thank you for what you do.
Bobette Dodson Co-President
I am enjoying working as Co-President with Denise Mitchell this year! As they say, “two heads are better than one.” The council has great talent and am honored to be part of a dedicated group of members. We are proud to be part of the Illinois Reading Council, which is one of the best in the country!
As a retired Reading Specialist, I love literacy, and tutor part-time at the NIU Literacy Clinic. My husband and I live in a new home in Campton Hills, have three married children, five grandchildren, and a German Shepherd, Auggie, who keeps us hopping!
Dawn Lutz President-Elect
Beth Herrig Past President
Katina Kastrantas Secretary
This is my sixth year on the FVRC Board! I am looking forward to another wonderful year!
I was President-Elect for two years and then Co-President for the last two years. I am excited to remain on the council as secretary this year. During the school year I am enjoying my fifth year as an English Language teacher in Wheaton-Warrenville school District 200. I love taking what I learned from the IRC conferences into my classroom. This summer I spent a few weeks in France and Greece. I loved finding my favorite book, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein in Greek. I love forward to reading it in both languages to my students on the first day of class.
