Kindergarten Registration 2020-2021
If you have a child who will turn five years old on or before September 1, 2020, please take note of the following information. Millburn District 24 will be accepting registration for Kindergarten on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Millburn Elementary School, 18550 Millburn Road, Wadsworth.
You must call the school to request a registration packet. Millburn Elementary School's main office number is 847-356-8331. All required paperwork should be completed when you bring it with you to begin the registration process. If you are unable to attend the registration date, you may drop off the completed packet prior to April 1, 2020. Kindergarten screening for readiness will take place in August prior to the start of school.
What else should parents bring to registration?
1) Your COMPLETED registration packet.
2) Your child's ORIGINAL birth certificate - Must be Issued from the County (not the hospital keepsake) - we will make a copy, no charge.
3) Proof of Residency - The registration packet will contain a form with a list of required documentation.
4) Your calendar - You will be able to make an appointment for screening, which is done in August.
FIRST GRADE - If you currently have a child enrolled in a kindergarten program other than the Millburn District, please notify the office if you intend to register your child for first grade in Millburn. Your child must be six years old on or before September 1, 2020, to register for first grade in this district. If you know anyone in our district who may not receive this notification, please ask them to contact the school. We appreciate your help as we prepare for next
school year!

Valentine's Day Celebrations
V-Day parties will be Friday, February 14h at 1:00. EPIC is working hard to get all the activities ready to go for our students. We do want to remind families that our holiday parties are FOOD-FREE. Do not send Valentine’s Day cards that include candy such as NERDs boxes, FunDips, Candy heart boxes, etc. Also, do not send goodie bags filled with food items. Our holiday parties are designed for fun without the need for treats or goodie bags. There is no need to send anything that day with your child, except Valentine’s Day cards for their fellow students. Any candy or goodie bags brought in will not be distributed to students and will be sent home with the child or parent who brought them. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT)
Students in 2nd and 5th grades will be taking the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) in mid-February. For second graders this requires two sessions (one of 15 minutes and one of about 35 minutes). Fifth graders take the test in one session of 45 minutes. Information from the Otis-Lennon is part of the district’s universal screening tools for AIM, our program to meet the needs of our advanced and high-ability learners. Information about your child’s results will be shared with you.
State Assessments
Illinois Science Assessment (ISA)
Our 5th graders will be administered the Illinois Science Assessment on March 17th, 18th, and 19th. Each session will take approximately 45min. Last year, 79% of our students were proficient with their science skills, which is awesome! Yet, we continue to strive to improve each year.
Here is a link for more information on the ISA: ISA Information
Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
The IAR is a computer-based standardized assessment for all students in Grades 3 - 8 that is meant to measure students’ progress toward the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, as well as the Standards for Mathematical Practices. Millburn Elementary will test April 2nd-9th. This will provide the school district with information on student learning and facilitate continuous improvement of our educational programs.
English Language Arts
Grade 3 : 2 tests (75 minutes each)
Grades 4 - 8: 2 tests (90 minutes each)
Mathematics
Grades 3 - 8: 3 tests (60 minutes each)
Practice Tests and Questions
One way to help your child is to learn more about the content for your child's grade level and the types of questions on the IAR exam by using the links below.

Online Student Tutorials
These tutorials will show you the variety of question types students will encounter when taking the IAR online. First, students are exposed to a question type and then they are given a content-based example for practice.
Equation Editor Tutorials
The equation editor is a tool students will need to know how to use for the math portion of the IAR. It allows students to build equations to show solutions to test questions.
