FES Holiday Edition
December 8, 2023
Fredericktown Elementary School staff and students are busy working and learning together. Our students are participating in a variety of engaging activities that match the excitement in the air that this time of year typically brings. We are approaching the end of the nine weeks, so it is a busy time of year for classroom activities. Additionally, we are completing assessments and projects to see how our students are progressing academically.
The last day of school with students will be Tuesday, December 19, 2023, and we will have break until January 3, 2024. Students will need to return to school on Thursday, January 4, 2024. I hope you have a safe, happy, restful Holiday Season with family and friends. Thank you for your part in making our school the best.
STEAM Activities 5th Grade
Putt Putt Golf
Students in Mrs. Gregg's 5th Grade classroom participate in science, technology, engineering, art and math activities. Students in Mrs. Gregg's class created projects in which they incorporated a variety of content learning. The culminating activity for our 5th graders was to invite 3rd graders down to experiment with the projects. Students were provided the opportunity to play putt putt and talk with 5th graders about their projects. This idea came about when our 5th grade was invited to see the engineering projects our high school students created in Mrs. Webb's Project Lead the Way classes. I would like to thank Mrs. Gregg, Mrs. Webb and all the other staff who helped make this type of learning possible.
Spelling Bee
Every year our 5-8 grade students participate in a spelling bee. The event is sponsored and coordinated through the Knox County Educational Service Center and our Talented and Gifted Coordinator, Ben McClay, organizes the event locally. This year our top two students were runner up - Orin Kettell and the winner of the event and our top 5th grade speller, Jace Smith. Top students will move on to compete at the next level of the competition with area schools on January 11, 2023 at Mount Vernon High School. Good luck Jace! We know you will represent well.
PBIS Monthly Award Winners
We recently recognized our monthly PBIS award winners. This month's award winners worked hard on the skill of problem solving. Students will focus on, learn about and participate in activities related to a different skill every month throughout the school year. Congratulations to all our award winners.
