Winter Keystone Exam Schedule

January 6 and 9 - Biology (3 hour window - 7:45-10:45)
January 10 and 11 - Algebra (Periods 1 & 2)During the delay schedule times, students in grades 9 and 10 who are not testing will be working on asynchronous assignments in a non-testing room in the building. Juniors and Seniors who are not testing on these delayed schedule days are eligible to arrive at school by 10:40. Any Juniors who have not completed their Smart Futures lessons will be required to attend school at the regular 7:45 start time. If they do not attend, they will face detention as a consequence. Seniors in this situation will be assigned to a room with a teacher to assist and supervise them.

Semester 1 Finals & Early Dismissal Permission Slip
For a student to be able to leave at 11:40, a parent must complete the following form that will serve as an electronic permission slip. If the form is not filled out, the student will not be allowed to leave for the day.
As a reminder, there is no school on Friday, January 19th for high school students. This is a transition day for teachers to prepare for semester 2 classes.
Semester 2 Back to School Night
On January 30, 2024, we will be holding a Back to School Night for second semester classes. However, this will not be a traditional Back to School Night. The schedule for the evening will consist of three parts - Activity Fair, Mini-Informational Sessions, and Meet the Teachers.
Activity Fair (5:30-6:30)
The Activity Fair will be held in the cafeteria. Each department will have an informational table set up to discuss with parents the various course offerings, appropriate levels, and required courses for graduation. There will also be informational tables for our student organizations (FFA, DECA, and Skills USA) to help make parents aware of different ways students can be involved outside of school. This is a drop in time. It is not a formal presentation with an official start and end time. Light refreshments will be provided by our Class Act Beverages and Eagle Eatery.
Mini-Informational Sessions (see schedule below for times)
Sessions are being offered for parents on the following topics: Skyward, Schoology, CTE Programs, Advanced Course Offerings, and Act 158/Graduation Requirements. Parents may attend the sessions that are most suited for their needs and guiding their student through high school.
Meet the Teacher (7:20-8:15)
This portion of the evening will be very similar to the Back to School Night in September. Parents will travel through their student's schedule to briefly meet the teacher and be provided an overview of the course.
Additionally, The Red Zone will be open for business if you are interested in purchasing some Dover gear, and the concession stand will be open, as there is a basketball game.
We understand evenings can be very hectic with many activities and work schedules. However, our hope is to provide each family with the information they need and allow parents to choose the options that will be beneficial to them. We hope to see you there! (February 6, 2024 will be the make-up date in case of inclement weather.)
JA STEM Volunteers Needed
We need your help! On February 7, 2024 Junior Achievement of South Central PA will be at Dover Area High School with their STEM Summit Program. All students in 10th grade will be participating in the day-long event designed to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
The goal of the STEM Summit is to inspire students to pursue an academic STEM focus in the remainder of their high school courses. After the completion of the STEM Summit, guidance counselors have a foundation to work with students on appropriate course work.
For this day to be a success, we will need volunteers to facilitate ONE of the STEM activities for the day as students rotate through your station. You do not need to have a STEM background to be a great volunteer! If we do not have these volunteer spots filled, we are in danger of not being able to run this meaningful event. Please also share this opportunity with friends, neighbors
and colleagues who may be interested in helping the students of our school. I have attached a flyer with all of the information for the day and a direct link for you to sign-up.
You do not have to be an approved school volunteer to help with this day. Junior Achievement will provide online training as well as on-site support to all volunteers. A light breakfast and lunch will also be available for volunteers. Please consider volunteering and join us as we spend the day empowering and inspiring our students. This opportunity is only possible with the support of wonderful volunteers like you.
To sign up to volunteer, click the link in the flyer or contact Shannon Baker, Vice President Program Operations, at sbaker@jascpa.org.
Winter Weather Days
As we approach the winter months and the potential for inclement weather, we would like to clarify weather days:
Traditional Snow Days will be called on those days when a sudden storm overnight causes the road conditions to be unsafe for travel. In other words, traditional snow days will be called when the district has no time to prepare in advance. When traditional snow days are used, the school days will be made up later. The 2023-2024 Dover Area School District calendar has two makeup days built into the calendar after January 1, 2024. Those dates are March 1, 2024 and April 1, 2024. If those dates are exhausted, any additional makeup days will be added to the end of the school year.
Remote Learning Days will be announced when inclement weather is known in advance. This means remote learning days will only be called when the district has had time to prepare and communicate with students, families, and staff. Remote Learning Days will require all students to complete work on their iPads; therefore, the iPads will be sent home before the Remote Learning Day.
Many factors go into making decisions regarding traditional snow days and remote learning days, including recent and upcoming holidays and other days off. The decisions are made with an emphasis on safety and maximizing instructional time for students. We provide this information as a guideline but not a guarantee of a traditional snow day or a remote learning day. The district will communicate by sending voice calls, emails, and posts on the district’s website, TV stations, and FaceBook as soon as possible as to what to expect. Expect a regular day if you do not hear or see anything.

Semester 2 - 10 or more referrals for the school year

No money will be refunded to students after May 4, 2024.
Tickets may not be sold from student to student.
Attendance Reminder
Per the DAHS Code of Conduct, students should receive consequences for every 5 unexcused tardy to school occurrences. Skyward is now logging this automatically and DAHS administration is beginning to meet with students to provide warnings and/or assign consequences moving forward.
