Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful and blessed Christmas Season! Thank you everyone for your generous gifts, thoughtful cards and sweet greetings this Christmas! I am truly grateful and overwhelmed by your generosity.
We are quickly back into the swing of things with MAP testing beginning next Monday. Please see below for more information. Our 2nd quarter ends on January 29th, marking the midpoint for the school year.
This Friday is an 11:45 dismissal for our monthly faculty meeting. Pizza will begin the following Friday, January 15th. I apologize for the confusion. Our first installment of pizza Fridays will be January 15th, January 22nd, January 29th and February 12th. If all goes smoothly we will continue after February break.
ADVENT PRAYERS FOR SOYAPANGO:
Please remember to return your completed Advent Calendar prayer sheets to the school by Thursday, January 7th. We will be giving them to the Twinning Committee at the Church to send over to El Salvador.
DRESS DOWN FUNDRAISER FOR SOYAPANGO - THURSDAY, JANUARY 7: Transfiguration School will host a "Charity Dress Down” to benefit Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and St. Joseph the Worker School in Soyapango, El Salvador. Funds collected will go toward supporting educational programs and scholarships. Students who wish to participate can bring the suggested $2.00 donation to their homeroom teacher on Thursday morning. This is an optional fundraiser, and school uniforms may be worn for those who do not wish to participate.
Beginning January 11th, the students of Transfiguration School will take NWEA MAP Growth assessments on a computer or tablet. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.
MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Grades 4-8 will begin testing on Monday while grades K-3 2ill test the week of January 19th. Students in Kindergarten- Grade 2 will take assessments in Reading and Math while students in Grades 3 through 8 grades will participate in Reading, Math and Language Usage. Each test, while untimed, typically takes less than one hour. Following each testing period, you will receive a Family Report showing a summary of how your child is performing academically.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. We request that students are on-time and fully rested to ensure they are able to concentrate at their best. For students testing remotely, we ask that a parent/ adult be available to support as needed during designated testing times. Teachers will reach out to you with the testing schedules later this week.
