Lunches
If the weather does not cooperate, we will be indoors, using two separate spaces. We will use the gymnasium and this year will incorporate the cafeteria back into lunch use. Our cafe design will not allow for 200+ students to participate in lunches with consideration of distancing while unmasked, so both venues will be used. Students will eat in the gymnasium and cafe following a simple every other day rotation. Teachers will inform your child of this alternating schedule during the first few days. Similar to outdoors lunches, attire and towel can be considered for gym picnicking (chairs will be available for students wishing to use them). The cafe will be set up to accommodate 100-140 students seated with 3 foot spacing considered.
Lunches present one of the biggest challenges under the cloud of Covid. We were able to use the gym and parking area effectively last year. Adding the cafe into the mix is genuinely a positive step to some normalcy.
MASK BREAKS
Just this past week, the Commissioner of Education, Mr. Jeff Riley petitioned the Mass Board of Education to institute a mask mandate for all public schools through October 1, 2021. This petition was accepted, so all public education students must wear a mask while in the school building with the only exception being lunch time. While this mandate is in place, teachers will provide mask breaks throughout the day. One of the silver linings from last year was the infusion of "breaks" throughout the day. Students not only were able to remove their masks but movement was also part of these breaks. Teachers saw many benefits and were anticipating having "breaks" for students this year regardless of any mask use. Our individual teams of teacher work with each other to create these breaks at regular intervals throughout the day creating ample opportunities for students.
