Please Welcome our new Extended Care Site Coordinator!
Chynna Blevins will be taking the role as an Extended Care Site Coordinator for both Extended Care Sites. She will be assisting staff, students and families in ensuring all students are safe and engaged in our program. Please see her introduction below:
Hi there! My name is Chynna Blevins. I have a passion for working and serving others! I have a passion for working with students and helping them succeed in their goals and helping them discover their own passions. I received my degree from Oregon State University, majoring in Psychology focusing on Human Development and Family studies and Childhood development. I also have my minor in Public Health. I plan to advance my education with my Masters in School Counseling. I’ve wanted to be a school counselor since I was in 5th grade!
I am very upbeat and pretty energetic! And I am very excited to be working with all of you and doing all that I can to help you!
Lake Oswego School District Learning Levy
Last week, our School Board unanimously approved an enhanced Local Option levy request that will be going to our local voters in May. The May 21 ballot will include a measure to approve our Local Option levy at $1.64, a 25 cent increase over the current Local Option levy of $1.39. As you may know, our current levy is one of five funding streams that support our local schools, along with the LO Schools Foundation, construction excise tax, state funding, and the school construction bond. Of all of these, the levy is the only local voter-approved operational funding we receive. The current levy comprises approximately 13% of the District’s overall operating revenues and pays for more than 80 teachers, licensed staff, and support staff across the District that we otherwise wouldn’t have. Levies are usually renewed every five years; our current levy was last renewed in November, 2013.
We are calling this year’s levy the “Learning Levy” because it’s “quarter for kids” increase is dedicated STEM, literacy, and social and emotional well-being. This levy will fund an additional 20 licensed staff – giving us 100+ levy-supported teachers and staff across the District. These licensed staff will not only help maintain or reduce class sizes at our schools, but they will also support our progress toward individualized learning and social-emotional learning initiatives at each of our schools.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll share more about the levy and how it specifically supports our school. For now, please visit www.losdschools.org/levy for more information about the levy: what it funds, how much it costs, and why it is needed.
