Central Celebration Friday October 13th
"Learn Like a Champion" is our motto this school year.
Below are the details of each award:
Value of the Month Winner: Each month, the Plainfield Community School Corporation focuses on a Community Value and each teacher chooses a student in their class who represents that Value. For each value, one student is chosen as the overall winner from Central Elementary and is invited to the follow month's School Board meeting where their teacher will read the student's nomination letter and the student will be awarded with a Value of the Month Trophy. At the Central Celebration in October, we acknowledge the Value winners from each class for August, September and October.
Rising Star: Every teacher chooses a student who is their Rising Star for the quarter. This student is chosen for their positive attitude, work ethic and overall academic improvement that is displayed over the course of the three months of the quarter.
Perfect Attendance: Each student who attended school every day for the quarter will be recognized and receive a special "Perfect Attendance" brag tag for their CHAMPS necklace/key chain.
Specials Awards: The Art, Library, Music and Gym teachers choose one student from each grade who is a stand-out in their class to receive an award.

He gives great effort to be sure his work is complete and done correctly. He is very conscientious about being sure he does all that is expected of him. He is working hard on his handwriting to improve that. He takes pride in his work. Specials Highlight: MUSIC!
Each month we will be highlighting one of our Specials (Music, Art, Library and Gym).
For October we have a class update from our amazing music teacher, Mrs. Allen.
We are currently working on Veterans Day Music and the kids are loving it. At the beginning of the year, we had an amazing time moving to music! We did a Dalcroze Movement called “press, hug, welcome, lift.” Students really enjoyed it especially when we moved to the fast-presto tempo.
Our composer of the month for October is Francis Scott Key.
Music Program Dates:
K, 2, 4- November 10th,
3rd Grade- December 5th,
1st Grade- February 6th,

Art Contest
Dear Families,
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis hosted an art contest. Entries from all over the state were submitted! The contest was the artistic interpretation of a Wicked Woods, Central students in grades K-3 participated. A handful of 4th and 5th graders completed projects on their own to enter. Several from each grade level were selected and sent to the Children’s Museum to participate in the contest. Judges narrowed all entries to 30 per grade level and then nominated 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mentions.
I am proud to announce that Central had four students chosen for top 30 in their grade level! Congratulations to 1st graders Kylie Moore and Nolan Watson and 3rd graders Ayden Babkowski and Brooklyn Burris. Their art work will be proudly displayed October 8th-31st, 2017 at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. I am beyond excited for these students and so happy that they are getting this recognition!
Congratulations to all!

Central Elementary is excited to share our Positive Behavior Intervention Support program. Our program is rooted in Central character and the idea that Champions Make Choices and Choices Make Champions. Our faculty was involved in creating and defining a Central CHAMPS student.
The following defines what it means to be a CHAMPS student:
Caring
Honest
Achievement
Making good choices
Prepared to learn
Safety
Furthermore, we have defined our Central Champs expectations in all areas throughout our school. In a continued effort to recognize our students making good choices, as well as build our climate and culture, we use a school-wide Brag Tags programs. All students will receive a necklace (k-2) or a keychain (3-5) along with a Central tag to start the year. This is a way to acknowledge the hard work and positive behavior of our students. Additional tags will be awarded one time a month through specials classes.

Attendance
We enjoy seeing your children every day. Although we understand that there will be times when your child is sick and needs to stay home, there is a direct correlation between student attendance and success. Here are a few ways we can work together to make sure your children have very good school attendance and don't feel like they are missing out.
- Schedule all doctor’s appointments outside of the school day if at all possible.
- It is very important to turn in medical notes (doctor, dentist, therapy, etc) to the nurse when returning to school.
- Share with your child how important it is to be at school.
- Make sure to communicate absences in advance, if possible, so the classroom teacher can ensure that your child still has opportunities to learn skills that he/she will miss when they are absent.
- Help to make sure that your child arrives at school on time each day. The doors open at 8:30 and students need to be seated in their classroom each morning by 8:50 or they are counted tardy.
Our teachers work hard to provide the best instruction and we want to make the most of each of our days together. We look forward to seeing you at school!
Changing the End of the Day Transportation Routine
The following information is simplified from our handbook:
- If your child is to go home a way different than their normal arrangement, you must send in a note to the teacher with instructions as to how the child is to go home.
- Please make these arrangements before school or by 1:00 p.m. at the latest.
- If you call requesting that your child become a car rider, you are required to come into the school office to sign out your child. Your child will be waiting in the office lobby until you sign them out.
- If you call requesting that your child ride a bus home instead of being a car rider, we will need to verify that we are speaking to the child’s parent/guardian
- Finally, please note that e-mail notifications of changes for the end of the day ride home will not be accepted.
