The Veteran's Day program was a huge success. It was wonderful have Garrin, Avery and Logan's family's represented. My father, both of my grandfather's and my husband are all veterans as well, so it is very special to my heart as well. The kids sang America the Beautiful and It's a Grand Old Flag.
The school's Fun Run was also a big success! We had to move the run inside but it actually turned out perfect. The children ran and dance and had a great time. Thank you for putting up with all of the emails and for supporting our school.
One more week until Thanksgiving break! I know many of you are leaving early for the holiday. Please be sure to go through the office and fill out a planned absence form. Thanks!
Have a wonderful weekend!

WHAT WE'VE BEEN LEARING
Language Arts- We read The Rough Face Girl and learned about where true beauty come from. We compared the story to Cinderella. The kids also focused on powerful adjectives. We are learning to do expository writing as well. We started writing about a celebration or holiday your family celebreates. The fun part was learning how to write a "bold beginning" and create a starting sentence to capture the reader's attention. We also read Henry and Mudge from our text books and talked about author's purpose. We learned PIE, to persuade, to inform or to entertain.
Social Studies-We are learning about cultures and customs. If at anytime you are celebrating something at home that you can share with us, please let me know. I would love to highlight it and teach the class about it.
Science-We have moved into a unit on light, sound and heat energy. We learned all about vibrations and used Boom Whackers, dancing water speakers, and boinging rulers to explore sound. We went into a dark room and added small amounts of light and watched out it impacted the colors we could see. We also melted butter using a variety of heat sources.
