Books! Gadgets! Fun!

November 2016

October was a blast! We hosted a successful Book Fair; celebrated creativity with our NPES Cardboard Carnival; and more! We will have more fun in November with STEM Safari and research with various grade levels! Teachers, please know that we are here to pull books, help with projects, and more! Let us know what you need! Parents, if you need book suggestions or ideas of ways to get your kids excited about reading, let us know!

THANK YOU!

Valerie Byrd Fort, Sarah Sheely, Karen Gobbi, and Brenda Burkett

Makerspace Moments

Makerspace Moments is a time for students to create, explore, and learn. Each month our Makerspace has a Spotlight Activity...the November Spotlight Activity is FINGER KNITTING!

No time to visit our Makerspace, but want to learn how to finger knit? Check out this awesome YouTube video!

Makerspace Moments are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1:30pm in the Learning Commons!

Ideas for the Computer Lab!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! November is Spreadsheet Month!

Listen to Sally, the Spreadsheet! (Created with ChatterKid app!)

During your computer lab teaching time (or as a class group activity in your room) use MS Excel.

Discuss terms such as spreadsheet, columns, rows, data, and graph.

There are many examples of spreadsheets on the Student Shared drive in the Microsoft Excel folder that you can use. (Favorite Thanksgiving Food, Pumpkin Pie, M&Ms, Birthdays, Eye Color, Skittles, etc.)

Let your students practice creating a simple spreadsheet -- enter data and create a simple chart! (A spreadsheet is an application for organization, analysis, and storage of data.)

Not into spreadsheets? Focus on keyboarding! Check out Typing Quest (http://www.typingquest.com/) !

If you need help with a lesson in the Computer Lab, let your Learning Commons team know! We will be happy to help you!

Picture Book Month!

Did you know that November is National Picture Book Month!? Everyday this month, Mrs. Byrd Fort will be highlighting a different picture book on the library’s Facebook page and on a display in the library! You are never too old for a picture book!

LifeSkills & Lifelong Guidelines SPOTLIGHT!

In November, we will work on NO PUT DOWNS, FRIENDSHIP, AND PROBLEM SOLVING.

There is a display of books when you enter the Learning Commons - CHECK IT OUT!

I will also add links and resources to our shared document available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NFsEIehMDFzjrxnwBPpJsen3KBnIgTe4EHJwA2nJLC8/edit

Please feel free to add your own resources for all to see! We are #bettertogether!
