The Advent Wreath (2nd week in Advent)

Every week in chapel our students light a candle on the Advent Wreath and hear what each candle symbolizes. As each candle is lighted, we gain excitement of our Savior's birth. We thought you would like to know about it too....

History. The concept of the Advent wreath originated among German Lutherans in the 16th Century. However, it was not until three centuries later that the modern Advent wreath took shape.

Lighting of the Advent Wreath & Prayer

1st Candle - (purple or blue) Prophets’/Prophecy Candle - Hope & Expectation [Isaiah Prophecies of Messiah]

2nd Candle (purple or blue) Bethlehem Candle - Faith [Micah - Faith for the Journey to Bethlehem]

3rd Candle - (pink) - Shepherds Candle - Joy [Lowly lifted up / Mary & Shepherds]

4th Candle - (purple or blue) Angels’ Candle - Peace [Message from the skies: Peace!]

5th Candle - (white, in center) Christ or Jesus Candle - Light & Life / Purity [Jesus is the Life and Light of the World / Takes Away the Sin and Darkness of the World]

PARENTS - Here are some great tips from Screenagers, especially for Christmas...

Christmas Shopping? Here are a Few Ways to Give to Grace too!

Adopt A Family for Christmas

A tradition at Grace is the Adopt-A-Family Christmas Tree. This is a special tree in the welcome center decorated with “ornaments” reflecting the needs of a family that may be going through tough times and could use a little Christ Child cheer. If you would like to help someone in this situation, please choose an ornament from the tree and follow the instruction inside.
