Principal's Message
Dear Wildcats,
Go Astros! We were able to win on Saturday and now on to make big win tonight! This is very exciting because those of you who follow baseball, Alex Cora, the manager of the Boston Red Sox used to be an Astro's coach prior to his promotion. So, it's cool to see when the master and the apprentice match up! In light of that, we can wear Astro's gear this week to support our hometown team!
It is a short but jam packed week friends. So, here we go!
- Parent Conferences: It is time for us to continue building that powerful community relationship by having our parent conferences. Here's a great article on why student-led conferences can leverage powerful conversations in your student's growth. STUDENT LED CONFERENCES and they can be as simple as students choosing 3 samples of work that reflect one area they demonstrate a couple areas of personal strength and one area of weakness. So kids can articulate to their parents how they can support them too. Please read our SSE procedures for Parent Conferences. (It is on google drive- search Parent Conferences 2018-2019.
- 4th Grade Writing PSA 1: Our first PSA is on Tuesday. Please adhere to the message Cindy sent out last week and pre-read the powerpoint I sent out today. Accomodations page has been sent out by Rocio for you.
As a community- we have declared our goal to improve on state accountability standards by one letter grade from 70 to 80.
Looking ahead into the work we will do for this month:
- Assessing our Students for PSA 1; Rdg, Math, Sci, & Writing: PSA1 2nd-5th are scheduled for the week of October 16th-25th.
Fun Activities:
- Fall Carnival: Our carnival theme is Unstoppable: Sports Theme! Each team must decide on what sport team they will represent and dress accordingly throughout the day on October 19th. It is tradition! By the way we have prizes to give away for best dressed teams. Prizes: Best Dressed Team: $100 from Office Depot for Teacher Supplies. Best Dressed Team #2: $30 Chili's Happy Snack Hour. Top 3 Best Dressed Staff Members: Vera Bradley Backpack filled with Teacher Supplies, Top 3 Honorable Mentions: Chickfila Cards (Demetra & Yezenia will be judges.)
- Red Ribbon Week: We celebrate on 22-26th! Look at the calendars for fun daily student and staff activities.
Wildcat Love and respect,
Rachel Martinez

Think about... when would you like to have your students create a class book. If you have some writing assignments that are getting edited which would make a great writing piece for a book, let's plan!
Thanks again for your support!

Shout Outs
- Shout out to the Walker Monitors! Friday was the smoothest and most beautiful dismissal! Congrats on your collaboration and awesome monitoring!
- Thank you to Mr. Anzora for DJing our last activity for Hispanic Heritage Month- playing latin music in the cafeteria! We had a blast!
- Many thanks to our lunch monitors on Friday for keeping our latin pride fun and exciting for kids and rolling with flexibility!
Last week the golden paw award went to Ms. Mendoza and Mr. Anzora.
Ms. Mendoza was awarded her paw because of her smiling face every morning as she greets the students as they come in. Mr. Anzora was awarded his paw because of how he engages with the bus riders in the cafeteria during dismissal.
This week, the winners are Ms. Parsons and Coach Fontenot. Ms. Parsons always responds to the needs of staff members expediently. Coach Fontenot was awarded her paw because she and Coach Grant have graciously accepted the responsibilities of having an additional 20+ students in every class period. The Specials team truly is special!
