Your child will need to wear weather appropriate clothing and tennis shoes. In addition, please have your child eat a good breakfast, since we will be eating lunch later than normal.

We would love to have parent volunteers join us at the zoo. Each parent attending will need to pay at the gate, the group rate is $6 each.

Big picture

SIGHT WORDS OF THE WEEK!

  1. what
  2. who
  3. when
  4. will
  5. went
  6. we'll

Please, practice these sight words every night with your child. They should be able to say them and write them correctly. They should NOT sound out these sight words, they should just know them by sight. Thank you for your help with this!

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Reading - Students will be able comparing and contrasting fairy tales and the story elements in them.

Writing - Students will finish up their informative Writing Unit. We are researching and learning about rainforest animals.

Math - Students will be working on patterns and using them to identity one more or one less in the patterns given. They will also be practicing writing their numbers from any point to 120.

WEATHER

With the weather starting to go back and forth between temperatures please check the weather daily (and pay attention to the temperate at 9:30am) to make sure your child has the appropriate clothes for that day. Layers are great! For example, it might be a high of 53 degrees for that day but when we go out for recess at 9:35am it feels like 32 degrees outside. We go out for recess at 9:35am, 11:30am, and 2:45pm. I hope that helps!

We will be going outside for recess unless it is below 32 degrees (we go off of based what it "feels like") or it is raining. Click HERE for the weather website we use at school.

READING GROUPS

We have switched up reading groups this semester. Some students will being going to other first grade classrooms to do reading groups with the other first grade teachers. We are doing this so students will have access to more tailored reading instruction on their reading level.

TIER 3 - MATH

We are excited to begin bringing in additional RTI support (Tiger Time). Tiger Time is where we provide students K-5 with additional support on grade level standards based on their needs. We will be providing Tier 3 interventions in the area of math based on math screeners that were given to students in grades K-5. Our building instructional aides will be using this information to support students with interventions that target foundational skills in the areas of structuring numbers and number names and numerals. Tier 3 interventions will take place twice a week during the first 15-20 minutes of Library and Computer Lab.

ATTENDANCE

Please make sure that your child is at school each day from bell to bell (8:25AM-3:30PM). It is really important because most of the instruction during the day is hard to get students caught up on when they miss the lessons. Please try your hardest to make doctor appointments either early in the morning or later in the day. We are working really hard in class towards our attendance goals. School doors open every morning at 8:10AM.

SENDING MONEY TO SCHOOL

When sending lunch money or money for anything else to school please make sure:

  • Money is in an envelope
  • The envelope has your child's name on it, what the money is for, and how much is in the envelope

LUNCH INFORMATION

  • Visitors must be accompanied to the lunchroom
  • Parents may only sit with their child(ren) at lunch
  • Parents may only bring food for their child(ren) at lunch
  • Limited seating in the cafeteria

TRANSPORTATION

All end of the day transportation changes need to be sent to school in your child's Communication Folder, emailed to the office, or you may call the office. We try our best to check our emails before school, during our break, and after school, but the rest of the day we are busy teaching. We would hate to miss an important transportation email, so please send these to the office so your child can make it home the correct way.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

If you are planning on coming to ANY event this year you will be required to have a background check. Every school year you will need to get a new background check (last years background checks have been discarded). This will include parties, field trips, visiting classrooms, etc. If you need a form please contact me and I can get it for you. You can also contact the office for this information as well.

GRADING

Please follow the link below to see the district video explanation on standards based grading and why they chose to do it this way. It is a great way to hear their explanation.
