Colt Round Up
September 30, 2018
"One small crack doesn't mean you are broken. It means you were put to
the test and didn't fall apart." - Linda Poindexter
With Appreciation:
- Thank you Vickie for the beautiful logo work in our front office. Thanks to Rob for coordinating efforts with our district facilities crew to get it hung!
- Bravo to the staff who are working on our PBIS Teams, Leadership Teams, and representing our site on various site and district committees - I hope you'll agree that it's exciting to see where we are headed and what we can come up with when we put our head's together!
- Kudos to Aly, Diane, Desi & Laura Sh. for their work in coordinating our first "IEP marathon day." Also, a big thanks to the teachers who came prepared for their meetings - it was super productive!
PBIS Update
- We've made a slight adjustment to our PBIS forms to remove "defiance" as an option. This is due to a 2015 law (CA Bill 420) that indicates you cannot in school or out of school suspend a child in K-3 for defiance nor can you use that category to expel a child in any K-12 grade.
- Our Tier II team met last week - big discussion items were how we plan to use a spreadsheet to monitor student progress on iReady and how we plan to select students for participation in our math tutoring (grades 1 or 2 and 4/5 for now)
- In looking at our PBIS data, the Tier I team observed: Third and fifth grade boys are engaging in minor contact (3rd) or major physical aggression (5th) during recess, 4 out of 5 days a week to obtain peer attention. And we set a goal to reduce referrals in this area by half by encouraging staff to reinforce the expectations and rules on the playground. Please see Jenny Wright's 9/28 email for more details, or click here
- Below you can see the graph of referrals on the playground in September. This particular snapshot includes grades 1-5 students.
Fieldwork Observation - looking for 2 teachers to host CSUS student
- Looking for 2 teachers who have students with some sort of an IEP to volunteer to have a CSUS teacher observe in their classroom for up to 15 hours this fall.
- You don't have to do anything other than confirm her observation hours and help her feel welcome.
- Let Jen know if you want to support an aspiring educator!
Deserving Families - Kiwanis Club Shopping Spree
- The Kiwanis Club of Lincoln will once again host some of our City's most deserving students this Christmas by giving them a shopping spree on December 8th!
- Looking for the names of 5 LCES students who would benefit from this service
- Email Jen with any names by October 12
Pizza Wednesdays
Please reinforce with your students that they are only to get into the hot lunch line if they have indicated they are purchasing hot lunch in the morning. Pizza is popular and we need to ensure that students that have requested hot lunch get access to it!
Halloween Door Decorating
- all doors will be judged on 10/24 at 9:30 am; there will be one winner per grade level
- This project is one that your art docents have been asked to take the lead on. So, your art docent will work with your class to coordinate your door (unless you prefer to do it on your own with your students).
- Our goal is to have a "red ribbon week" theme - please chat with your docent about how to do that appropriately. For TK-2, our focus is on healthy choices; and grades 3-5 will be focused on being drug free (but no specific drug references) - here are some ideas for inspiration!
- Click here for a flier with more details about the decorating contest.
- Contact Krystal at kricci1084@gmail.com or talk with your Art Docent with any questions
- we are asking staff to move the door decorations to the MPR between 10/4 and 10/26 to be used for Carnival decorations - stay tuned for details
