History of Auburn University

Auburn University was chartered by the Alabama Legislature as the East Alabama Male College on February 7, 1856. Auburn's first president was William J. Sasnett. The Auburn campus was used as a training ground for the confederates during the Civil War.

Athletics and Sports

Auburn made Gus Mahlzohn the football head coach in December 2012. In 2010, Cam Newton won the Heisman Trophy and Auburn won the BCS National Championship against the Oregon Ducks.


Auburn University has many traditions. One is an eagle flying over the football field before each game! Their colors are burnt orange and navy blue. Their mascot is Aubie the tiger.
