New Guidelines and Consent
School Counselors are not providing virtual mental health counseling during school closures. Counselors are only providing consultation and connecting students and parents to external resources. Below is a link to private providers and community resources should you feel you or your student need to reach out for professional, private counselors.
Parents or parents with your child(ren) can schedule a video conference with counselors if they have questions or concerns about resources and recommendations to assist your child(ren) with anxiety and other issues. Please understand that this is not family counseling or individual counseling for your child(ren). This is a consultation.
PWCS school counselors recognize that students and parents or guardians have a right to know the limits of confidentiality. Please see PWCS Regulation 651-2 below regarding information the confidentiality of student-disclosed information.
Counselors will use Zoom Meetings for consultation meetings with parents/guardians or parents with students present. This platform is on the recommended list based on the American School Counselor Association's recent virtual school counseling webinar. School Counselors must obtain parent permission either through email or verbally to meet with their child(ren) to video chat with their child(ren) and the parent/guardian must be present for the entire meeting.
Previous and New Social/Emotional and Academic Lessons
Each week, school counselors will upload previous lessons we have done with our grade levels as well as providing new lessons that target anxiety and change, social and friendship skills and academic skills. We will be providing links to readings of books we have already shared with the students and/or readings that will support any new lessons we post. Please know these lessons are optional!
**There is no student requirement to complete any lessons or activities posted by school counselors.**
