#ICANHELP is coming back to FMS
#ICANHELP will be back on Tuesday, November 21st to share the message of deleting negativity online. There will be assemblies for each grade level throughout the morning and a special parent meeting from 1:00-2:00. Kim is an amazing speaker and we highly recommend this informative session for parents.
Jim Marshall with Cody's Gifts Parent Presentation
Mr. Marshall spoke to the student body of FMS during Red Ribbon Week. We know how important his message is and invited him back for a parent session on December 15th. This is the same evening as the FMS School Dance. We hope that parents will plan to attend this event. More info coming soon!

6th Grade Band:
The students have been working through their books and are making AMAZING progress. There are times when we get to go back and students can pick lines out of the book that we have played in the past and playing them again, and they absolutely love and are amazed at the progress they have made.
We are working on some new teaching strategies in class, we are starting to sing our parts before we play them (no, we are not turning them into a choir ;) ). This has made a huge difference and their playing has improved a ton!
Students should be practicing at home as much as possible. We are going to start preparing for our Winter Concert which will take place on Tuesday, December 19. The concert will be split into two parts and more information will come out as it becomes available as far as times are concerned.
The dress for the December concert is the same at it was for the concert last week. Concert black and white. Please make arrangements so your child has clothes that meet the expected dress. If you have any problems getting these clothes please feel free to get in contact with me and I will help you!
Cherry dale orders will be delivered on November 16. If your child sold a lot of Cherry dale merchandise please make plans to come to the middle school after school and pick up their orders in the cafeteria.
Practice for this weekend:
#66, 67, 68 ,69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74
7th Grade Band:
The students have began preparation on the music for the December concert. There are things that we can still work on as a group and I think a quick conversation at home from parents about talking in class would be beneficial!
I am enjoying getting to work with this group and we are starting to think about solos for Central Methodist University Music Festival. I have had the students sign up and I am going to have solos picked by Thanksgiving Break. I am going to give them the music and they are to be able to play me their solo before Christmas break, if they cannot at least play through it they will not be allowed to attend the festival.
Cherry dale will be delivered November 16 and will be available for pick up after school or in the cafeteria that evening.
Homework for this weekend:
Bb scale and sheet music
8th Grade Band:
Get ready for chair auditions kiddos!! I am super excited to see what the next concert has in store for us and we need to hit the ground running.

Can't wait to see this wonderful singers on Tuesday, November 14th! They are working hard, and making excellent progress toward our concert goals!
Just so you can plan, please be aware that there is no uniform for this ensemble. Singers should dress nicely for our concert. No jeans, t-shirts, or tennis shoes please. Feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or questions!
Music 6:
Music 6 students have been exploring beat and rhythm! I am impressed by how quickly they have been able to demonstrate growth in performance, and in written practice!
Music 6 has a field trip this Thursday, November 16th! Mr. Matthew Capestro will be performing a private concert for our classes at First Christian Church! He will perform on the piano and the pipe organ. There will be tours of the organ pipe room, and a Q and A session to round out our field trip.
Sack lunches will be ordered from our cafeteria for any student who has indicated that they would like one. Students who wish to bring their lunches should do so. There will not be extra lunches on location, so it is important that students take responsibility for telling me that they would like a sack lunch (charged just as any school lunch is to their account), or bring their own.
ARTS ALIVE 8:
The drama is reaching new levels as our student-written production continues to be written. The creativity in this group is truly inspiring! May the adventure continue, full steam ahead!
Check out the sneak preview of the audio for one of the songs in our musical!
Please make sure to join us for our December 18th, at 7pm at FHS Allbritton Theatre!
