Cougar Community Connection
A Newsletter From Your Principal, Shannon McPherson
A Letter From Shannon 12/9/2022
We had a busy week this week at Cougar Run. We are wrapping up the iReady Diagnostic assessments in literacy and math in order to collect our mid year data sets to add to our body of evidence that we collect ongoing on our students' growth and progress. We will be spending time in January analyzing those mid year bodies of evidence in our data driven PLCs, (Professional Learning Communities) to make instructional decisions for students going forward. This mid year point is a great opportunity for reflection and tweaks to the instructional pathways that our students are on in order to fine tune for the second half of the year. Parent/Teacher Conferences are in February and will be a great opportunity for celebrations of the hard work and progress our kids have been making thus far, as well as discussions around the next steps for the second half of the year to end strong and ready for the next grade level. You will receive parent reports of the diagnostic assessments when we return in January. Have a great weekend everyone.

Soft Start and Cold Weather
Just a reminder that our “Soft Start” begins at 8:25 which is the time that the doors will be opened for students to enter for the school day. Students are NOT allowed to be dropped off prior to 8:25 because we do not have any adult supervision until that time. Teachers and staff are busy until that time preparing for our learning day and attending meetings. Our soft start times are the same, regardless of the weather! Students should be in their seats ready to learn by 8:40.
Drop Off and Pick Up Line
- When dropping off or picking up students, please pull all the way forward as far as you can before you stop to let students out. This allows the flow behind you to not get backed up.
- Please only drop students off at the drop off loop, refraining from dropping them in the parking lot and having them walk across the busy drop off line.
- Please do not block the handicapped spots. We have several families who use those spots for their students with disabilities or for their own.
- If you wish to watch your child walk in, please park in the parking lot spots and you are welcome to walk up and watch your kiddo go all the way in.
- Please do not park in the fire lane and get out to walk a child in or to pick one up from school. That is a quick drop off and go kind of flow since it is a fire lane.
- Please pay attention to the staff who are in the orange vests directing traffic. They are there to keep kids safe and keep traffic flowing.
Thank you so much for helping us ensure that safety and traffic flow are the priorities.
