Nuts & Bolts

Back in the Swing
I thought our transition back to school Thursday and Friday went well. Thank you for getting right back to work and for reviewing grace and courtesy, especially in regards to playground expectations.
We almost have a full week back this week. Below you will find the agenda for Monday's staff meeting. All part-time staff should plan to attend these meetings and adjust your weekly schedule accordingly to not exceed the hours listed on your employee agreements. Please bring your computers.
Thank you, Sunshine Committee, for putting together an excellent experience for us all on Friday. Click the button below to see the group assignments that were emailed to you this past week. You are expected to work a full day on Friday and be in the building during the hours specified in the link below.
Aside from the Escape room team-building activity, there are no other mandatory scheduled meetings for you on Friday. Please use this time to solidify dyad reading groups and whatever else you need to do to prepare standards-based, differentiated, Montessori learning experiences for our students.
Have a great week!
René
Stakeholder Survey Results
These Stakeholder Survey results were shared with advisory about a month ago and was also in this week's MMM. The family survey was open for about 6 weeks and had 77 responses, which is about 13% of 589 parent/guardian emails to which it was sent. This low response rate is disappointing. Please email René if you have ideas as to how we can increase this response rate from our families. As you know, the school staff survey results represent 100% of school staff.
Please review the staff survey results before our staff meeting Monday. The May 2018 staff survey results are below for your reference.

Please note that for the 2018-19 school year, the interventionist position did not exist.
Dyad Reading
We have been trying to brainstorm how to fold this strategy in with the theme-based, school-wide reading groups we've wanted to start since this summer and we just cannot figure out how to make both work. Given that we have school reading goals, improving reading will improve all standardized test scores, and dyad reading has been researched and proven to improve student reading skills in 15 minutes per day - we erred on the side of doing dyad reading.
It is important that dyad reading is set-up according to the directions we received in November's professional development. If the strategy is not implemented as researched, it will not have the same significant effect and also waste the time put into the process. Again, please contact support staff if you have questions setting up this strategy for your classrooms.
