Opening Thoughts...

Thank you to everyone for keeping an optimistic and open mind as we begin Farmer Flex Time. Although it was good in certain times and instances, there were times when I was disappointed with the students' actions and behaviors. The students will understand that they must take better care of their actions and behaviors to have Block Lunch and because of those behaviors, I have closed Block Lunch for the week. I know students are finding their place and comfort with Block Lunch and some are even asking if they can create other clubs - that is great, we will continue to get more students plugged in!

Please continue to push your expectations, be consistent, and have fun! There are great things going on and students working hard...so proud to be in the trenches with you! Everyone of us are soldiers fighting to give our kids the best!

Our Emotions & Professionalism

Once again, I was reminded about how our positions as educators ride on a very emotional state of mind. A video just went viral showing a teacher slapping and mocking a student in her classroom. I bring this up, because our emotions (me included) can get the best of us, and we need to always remember that our words and physical actions can be recorded at any time. I do not tell you this to scare or worry you, but just to be mindful! I know this is not how we conduct ourselves at Harmon, but it just serves as a reminder!

"Our schools are the cornerstones of the communities we serve, and every staff member in LISD plays a vital role in our district’s success. The relationships and connections you are building with our students and their families show the core of who we are in LISD."

- Dr. Kevin Rogers

Student of the Year Nominations

This is a very difficult task, nominating your top student...as I said last Friday at our faculty meeting, we often overlook the students who are our model/great students because we are focused on the negative behaviors...here is a time to not overlook!

* Each teacher nominates one student from their fall classes and one student from their spring classes.

* IF I teach 2 different courses; for example, Pre-AP & regular English - then I have 4 nominations.

* All year courses, pick 1 per semester.

We are going to be pulling the top 10-15 for the Principal's list, so keep that in mind as well. If you have any questions, please speak with Ms. Alleman. Ms. Bassinger has sent out the google form to collect your nominations.

The Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 27th during 2nd period. This ceremony is only for the students nominated and not the entire student body.
