First Few Days

What an amazing first two days of school! We had students from Roosevelt at Hanawalt welcoming our students on the first day. That was exciting!

Here are a few quick reminders:

  • Morning drop off is from 7:20 AM - 7:45 AM.
  • Please send your child to school with a water bottle.
  • At this time, we are not having visitors.

Dismissal

If a change needs to made to a dismissal plan for your child(ren), call the office before 2:00 pm. Please do not email teachers or administration with these changes. We cannot guarantee that email will be read before dismissal time.

Parents are asked to assist with dismissal procedures by making certain that children are clear about dismissal plans before they enter school each morning.

Nurse Sandy

Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year,

We have learned a lot over the past 18 months and here we are with the new COVID Delta variant at the start of the school year. Keeping the students and staff healthy is my priority.

DMPS will continue to follow guidance from the CDC (Center for Disease Control), IDPH (Iowa Department of Public Health), and PCHD (Polk County Health Department).

DMPS will encourage everyone who is eligible to receive the vaccine. We also strongly encourage masks be worn in the school by everyone – even those that are fully vaccinated.

Reminding all students and staff to STAY HOME when they have symptoms of illness or a pending COVID test. Generally, individuals may return to school when they are free from symptoms of illness for 24 hours. If your student or household has a significant exposure to COVID, please stay home and contact the school nurse for guidance.

We will physically distance when possible but please be aware that there will be many instances when that is not possible. We will continue with good handwashing. We have many opportunities for the students to wash their hands throughout the day and hand sanitizer is readily available. Our custodial staff will continue to do extra cleaning in high traffic areas and the HVAC system has been updated to provide better air circulation.

Water bottle stations are available so please send water bottles with your students.

Please make sure your phone numbers are up to date in Infinite Campus so we can contact you quickly if your student becomes ill at school.

When there is a case of COVID at school your student may bring home a note that they have been exposed. Please read the letter carefully and call the nurse with any questions.

I know this will be a challenging start to our year but we can get through it together. We will do our best to keep everyone healthy so we can focus on learning.
